Hi,
We've been asked to quote for taking over the office cleaning for a call centre, they currently have one cleaner on day shift 8-4 and two on night shift 11-7am then a cleaner in on Sat and Sun for 3 hours each day.
They are also wanting to "go eco" and want us to include the consumables, loo rolls, soaps etc in with the price.
Any idea of how to price this, never had to price for night shift work before.

Is the cotract still staffed, you will have to take them on with TUPE regulations same pay and conditions, also pricing for consumables will be difficult with no idea of usage.

Jason has it exactly right with the exception of the amounts of consumables
You need to find out under due diligence the quantities used over the last three years which will give you a maximum
It is a maximum because you will use the clever ways of reducing the amounts used
First look at the sani bin supplier costs and compare with our own, change from so expensive paper hand towels to Eco friendly airblades again see our site for details then there is the soap trick that saves a fortune
Quite easy once you understand the waste

I don't know your area so pricing may vary as I am in Kent.
The cleaners probably are on £6.00 £6.50per hour. Due to the large amount of hours I would say you need to be competitive here.
My most would be £10.70.00 per hour.
Pricing consumables is not an issue and I advise that you buy by the pallet as you would save considerably. We are shipping in about 40 pallets a time. (A month for some contracts)
Waste bins - that depend on how many you have... if more than 5 then you might get a good discount say £60 per bin per month.
As for the call center thats no different to a standard office in fact I would say easier to clean as we have a large number of call centers and have found them rather clean.

We do them from £48 leaving you all room to make a bit on top
Our service is supplied by one of the nationals through us and its service is one of the best

Thanks for the replies, yes it's still staffed and falls under TUPE regs, at the moment they'll not tell me the terms and conditions for the current staff, they work for another cleaning company.
I was looking at £10.50 - £11.00 per hour, what about night shift? do they get a premium, similarly for weekend work?
What sort of mark up do you put on consumables?
By waste bins are you talking about uplifted bins from a waste contractor? If so then I'm not involved with this as they actually get a revenue for their recycling waste at the moment which offsets the cost of landfill waste.
We also have to quote for the window cleaning, inside and out every 3 months, 1300 panes and the carpet cleaning as well.
It's a good contract if we can get it but I've just heard today that Insitu have also been asked to price it........so I may be shafted before I even start. The last time I went up against them I was way more expensive then them in every department!!

Hi Gordon,
To be honest I don't have lots of sani bins.
If you get the time please email me on how we could possibly use you as a contractor for sani bins.
I don't mind letting others know that we use CLD. Yes fairly expensive but I must say the service is very good.

TUPE can be a nightmare as you're effectively taking over someones terms and conditions that may render the business unprofitable. Plus it is often the way in which companies get rid of their dead wood.

Disagree TUPE is excellent
You get a new contract staffed with experienced staff all it needs is good management instead of recruiting new staff that don't know the building, new staff that might stay or not
No give me TUPE every time
Ian Insitu may stick in a low hourly rate but they make up for it on machinery rent and consumables plus as soon as any staff leave they are not replaced
It is a numbers game and you can match easily, ask client to calculate and compare annual costs and you will come out cheaper overall plus with the added benefit of local service
We have won three contracts recently from Insitu, its easy pickings

Gordon is right Tupe Everytime.
And you can easily beat Institu, they have just lost the Corals betting shops as they are rubbish. Its been taken back in house.
The cleaning supplies were awful. like 1 bottle of toilet cleaner for 6 months and 5 rubbish bags... :o :o :o
How on earth can they supply that amount when its blooming obvious more stock is required... even Corals had to go and get there own stock. Oh and if no one knows Institu thats another subsidery of Rentokill.
