Title: Is this a bad custy?
Post by: AuRavelling79 on February 10, 2011, 08:06:12 am
I have a custy I have been cleaning man and beast for about ten years. Changed to wfp in 2006 and call monthly at £20 for a 30's 5 bed detached. Takes 30/40 mins. No payment probs. When not in I lift the gate off the hinges and do the back.

She has leaky seals on a set of patios which I blade.

She doesn't like wfp even tho' it does a good job and she makes a point every so often to have a moan. Examples.

"Leaves streaks on kitchen window" - actually on the insides.

"Some windows are misty" - broken down units.

"Wfp causes misty windows" - no, luv - 15 year old windows with broken down units cause misty windows.

So it goes on - but she pays and I clean and she pays and I clean and she pays etc. Always get a coffee or tea.

Anyhoo - cleaned on Friday and they were away on the weekend and came back on the Tuesday and I get a call.

Her - "You've charged me £20 but you haven't done the backs"
Me - "Yes I did the backs"

Her - "They're all marked with little mucky spots on one side of the house and I've got a new cleaner who does the insides and she says it's definitely on the outsides, the fronts are brilliant but the backs are filthy."
Me - "We have had three days of driving rain since I cleaned them and the wind picks up the muck from the Motorway and Avonmouth and marks the windows."

Her - "What about your rain guarantee?"
Me  (thinks: damn!) ;D "Well that is for 24 hours and I might stretch to two days but its now 4 days since I cleaned them."

Her - "Well if you know it's going to rain it's hardly worth doing is it?"
Me - "Well if you take your car through the car wash and it rains on it two days later do you expect a freebie?"

Her "Speechless"

Anyhoo I went back and cleaned the backs "as she is a good custy" and it's the first time ever I've been called on my rain guarantee (even tho' I went out of the terms of the agreement for her).

So I've settled on strike one rather than drop.

She doesn`t sound like a bad customer, just thick. I wouldn`t dump, but I`d be thinking of the tea and coffee  ;D.
If she`s not in again when you clean, I`d put a note through saying ALL windows cleaned, INCLUDING THE BACK ONES  ::). Maybe, a reminder of  the terms of your rain guarantee too.

Ten years is a long time, she sounds she has been a good custy for the most part. £20 for 30-40 mins is not premium, but is a reliable revenue spinner, so I think I would put her on the naughty list for a while, and then try putting the price up a bit later. If that fails I would relegate her to the random visit list and only do it when I felt like a bit of extra cash.

I think Gold Bas turned the other cheek. Seriously £20 is £20 and with the driving rain they may have been dirty after day one but just not picked up on.  Malcolm has been reasonable and I'm sure the customer is happy.

Simon.

Presumably you're not desperate for work Malc.

Let's see:

1)  Regular moans about WFP even though it does a decent job.
2)  Falsely accusing you of leaving half of the windows without trying to establish the facts first.
3)  Complaints about WFP damaging her windows (possibly after compensation at a later date?).
4)  Having to lift the gate from its hinges to gain access.

I reckon that tea and coffee must be damned good for that level of hassle.

Some people just like to moan.  I'd probably just stick with her, and she'll probably just stick with you; the devil you know is better than the one you don't (especially where window cleaners are concerned).

But if she wanted me to call back again; = dropped!

Is the new inside cleaner not up to trixs and indirectly putting her up to its. Some custies are easly led.

Some windows are misty" - broken down units.
Tell her wf pole does not cause the leaks, the detergent in many window cleaning soaps can help towards the perishing of seal at the bottom of the frames. Misty surrounds are caused by the aliminuam frames of double glazing and it is a good conductor of cold.

Gold
This is one you can't drop - you need a couple of odd-balls and moaners to keep a balanced perspective - not too many mind you. Think how boring it would be if all your customers were model customers. You wouldn't have anyone to keep your mind sharp or verbally 'spar' with.

I agree, you know this job is a "people" job. Good payer, tea and coffee (Bickies?) So she spouts a bit now and then. So long as she don't call you back again.

colin he s just winding you up!! ;D ;D ;D ;D

it means basically that you tell your customers that you clean in the rain and to call you back if there are any problems with the clean (as long as its within 48 hours)

with WFP you can clean in the rain and it doesnt affect the finish like trad does. ;) ;D ;D ;D

ive never had a call back yet!! :D :D :D

Uhh! Would you really :P
I had something similar last week, An Iraqi lady has me do her windows when she feels like it so I charge accordingly.
She called me last week and said that I had left the windows dirty on one side of the house. This was 4 days after we had had south westerly gales for 3 days on the run, yeh an funny that all the dirty windows were on the side facing south west.
She tried to say I had left them that way, and she would have called me back right away but had lost my number.

I went back and did them again, and told her to ask someone else next time she wanted her windows cleaning.
She used to follow me from room to room rubbing at the inside of the panes, just checking that all the marks were on the inside.
