just wondering who we would all class as the chaps on here who run bigger operations than the one man bands say people who turnover £1000,000 + a year.
and maybe give a bit of insight into how they have took there businesses forward
-
a million?
Not more than one or two i don;t reckon
Quite a few over 100 k though
-
i think he meant 100k not 1000k as anyone that rich would most likely be on a beach then sat talking on here. interesting to know
-
I just missed the mark this year , i reckon if i get rid of the ladders and invest in wfp then i will hit the spot next year !
Its the quiet ones you have to watch ;)

I dont think a turnover of £100,000 can be classed as a bigboy! think if it was profit then yes but turnover no!
-
Just playin T&T , wont even mention his name ;)
One name i would like to see come up here is our dear old mod D.M.
When he tips up im gonna double the price for M&S instantly, you have been warned you plastic cornishman ;D

I guess it depends how big your own business is as to who you determine to be a big player? Anyone bigger than me I consider a big player and strive to be as successful as one day.
I hope to have gone past the 100k mark by the end of 2011. Just hope it goes to plan?
I too want to know who the 'big boys' are so I can try and network with them for ideas and advice?

In any business situation we all have the same advantage.
WE ALL HAVE TWO EARS & ONE MOUTH
So if you want a business that has more than 100 thousand turnover you have to learn one basic rule.
LISTEN TWICE AS MUCH AS YOU TALK.
(Richy I have told you how to do this, take time. read what I said and you wont go far wrong, Guaranteed)

I like this approach. Evaluate everything first?

Frankybadboy earned enough to buy a week in Weston Super Mare last year

i know a 100,000 grand aint biggest of firms but if ya hitting that sort of figure ya have got a fair sized window cleaning business

Rhinoman , you should write a book , make a bit more money .
I too have had the benefit of what i consider to be words of wisdom from a bit of a player , no book yet but its in the pipeline im sure !
He came to my house a while back for a coffee , or was he checking my work , i will never know !
He sat there with his wife and drummed into me that my prices needed to go up , for once i listened , on the monday i started the increases , not a single loss yet , not done it in 5 years , most work was fairly priced in my location , but i have to admit lots did need a big boost .
The upshot of this couples visit is the fact that i will now be earning lots more this year than last .
As was said about 2 ears 1 mouth , i see the point , i for one was too pig headed to hear it many times over the phone , it took a personal visit to drum it home .
My advice to anybody with a mentor willing to give the time to you is ...TAKE IT IN .
Regards Rich

its true what has been said, 100 k isnt alot in profit figures if you have 4 staff :)
But someone on there own could be knocking out 50 k plus and making similar, however from the 100 k you would have the foundation to grow your business and your quantity of work, from which your profit will grow
I am not bothered about turning over vast sums, just a good sole trader life stlye business, if in the future i want to get off the tools, i will go down the franchise route, less complicated! less overheads

No no, if in future you wanna get off the tools, consider a career in business advice to window cleaners, they'll never know the difference !!!!

why dont you read the end of the sentence you idiot
100k isnt alot in profit IF YOU HAVE 4 STAFF DOING IT
and if you have 50k for one man , it is pretty much the same
SO THE CONCLUSION IS TURNOVER ISNT EVERYTHING!!!!
if however you turn over 100 k with part time help , then you profit some good money
Perhaps if you wanna get off the tools you should learn to read

I'm reading fine. I'm also understanding the difference between profit and turnover. I'm an even bigger idiot than you imagine. I think 100k profit is great even if you have 10 men working for you. Thats how stupid i am.
-
100 k turn over i am talkin about, i must admit it isnt as clear to read as i thought, so i will let you off this once :)
My point is, 100 k turnover isnt a GOOD business, if it takes 4 guys to do it, ie too much costs, not enough profit, whereas one guy could profit a similar figure alone with good work
So some businesses may SEEM big, but are really just busy fools
i have been out canvassing commercial today and it seems alot of big commercial companies are busy fools, making money by doing shoddy work
