Anyone had any trouble with the velcro coming off the back of the minitex holder. Phoned Texatherm and they suggested buying new holders, at a cost of £60, I might try something else first. Would carpet spray glue be strong enough?

Gary,
Just had the very same problem and used a solvent glue to fix it.

I got rid of the velcro on mine, and made them fit onto the machine like you would a normal bonnet machine.
-
Can you explain more. How to you get the brush to stay on, for example.
-
Was thinking about buying one of these for a big pub upholstery job i've got on soon - sounds like they've got a design flaw - can anyone let me know what the problem is with them.
Thanks.

Mike,
The brushes and pad board have velcro glued and stappled onto them that sticks to the machine. When changing pads over a period of time the velcro starts to peel off. You could use an oreck for your big job.

Mine came off last month, quite annoying in middle of job all I could do is staple it back on with one of those Heavy duty staplers) around the edges. Seems to have done the job - for now.

Used to own a minitex so I can't believe they had a perfectly good driveplate on it and then changed it to velcro.
-
Oreck seems a bit big to use on upholstery - anyone else got any other ideas?
Thanks.

With my blue minitex i have problems seperating the velcro from the plate/brushes etc. When i went to texatherm in wsm to buy a stair brush for it even their engineer commented how well it holds on to the brushes as it took him ages to take the stair brush back off

Exactly the same experience! glued the velcro back on more than once - I tend to leave it behind now as its becoming more trouble than its worth. Use a small CFR machine instead unless its a larger job when its HWE. Was beginning to think I'd got a duff Minitex but obviously not!
-
I drilled out the base plate with 3 elongated holes, and then screwed 3 high tensile bolts into the brushes and pad holder. All I have to do now is locate the holes and twist into place, much easier.
-
That sounds like a good fix Derek, think I'll give that a go!

Bought the Minitex afterwards and used it today on a pub - absolutely fantatsic. Been struggling for years agitating upholstery by hand. Never again.
The Minitex was excellent - don;t know it's been altered but on the drive plate theres a bolt that fits into a hole on the machine which seems to help it stick together. Seems fine but time will tell if the velcro starts to give way.
-
Derek, have you any pictures of your mod?

As a follow up to this, I peeled off the velcro from the backing plate and guess what! 3 elongated holes already there - only had to fix bolts into rear of pad holder etc and job done. So must have been how the pads were held on originally. The locating hole/velcro fix will be ok until the velcro starts to come away!
