I was given some very nasty comments via a very not well educated person about women window cleaners and was wondering how many women out there do the job, and enjoy it.
-
I haven't seen any but I heard theres one in Crowland near Peterborough who goes round in a gang of 3 (her father and brother)
-
Imo there should be nothing stopping women from doing any trade.
The good thing about window cleaning is that it is easily accessable as a start up business, and even though there are those that would like to make the cleaning industry only accessable by people with a degree in H&S regs,it is easy enough to get a good round going by canvassing for your own customers, buying an existing round or even getting a round canvassed on your behalf(although this should be looked into a bit further)
Getting enough experiance to start a round is easy enough, you could ask a local wc if they are willing to take you out to show you the ropes, maybe choose which direction you wish to go...wfp or trad...both are viable alternatives to building a decent business.
I believe that you could have a big advantage as a female wc,customers love it when my wife does comes along to residential work.....
So in short, and there will be a lot of other stuff to take into account,go for it if it is what you want to do,and dont be put off by small minded individuals.....but also expect to take some flak as a laugh.
Best of luck
Dan :)
Always up for a giggle Dan
Thanks. I just want to do trad methods as i'm no stranger to ladder work but need to get a prof clean on windows and build up the time i spend on them. I want just a small round enough for 3 days a week.
I bet your wife gets in on all the chat ;)

Saying that my wife has helped me before but I think it's a great idea for a female to build their own round. Could see it going well too.

I hope so do you think i should put this on my cards and leaflets.

I bought a round off 2 lassies, they had been going 2 years and had a good little round. All trad all downstairs.
I have also employed 2 over the years, not since we went WFP though.
-
my missis been on windows with me over 10 yrs , does bottom windows n book .not too fussed on the cold so we get her home a bit early.but worth her weight in gold
-
I won't with my husband and I absolutely love it. We do wfp and trad. Definitely get more customers approach me and definitely a hit with the older people.
Definitely push it as a selling point
PS you do get some stick but it's mainly good natured ;D
-
mostly agree with A & J, it's the wife that attracts the new work. it is a good selling point, people seem to feel safer with a woman in the midst. never had any stick, not even in jest.
-
Thank you for all your replies just thinking how to word this on a business card.
I don't mind banter makes life abit lighter lol just don't like nasty comments. :)

Same here a would think an all female team of window cleaners in domestics would do very well,
It`s something that i have thought about starting a round and having just female cleaners!
It would be something new and think it would sell itself!

My wife has helped out now and again, the customers love it, as they feel like they now you better, and they all ask after her even though its probably best part of a year since she helped out last
I dont know if i'd like it full time though :)
-
hopefully women wont start window cleaning as they do most things better than men. Certainly more reliable!!!
-
Lol Rick. I do think it depends on the person ;D
-
True, I was being flippant. I personally have only ever met one, and she was part -time.
