Title: SLX clamp broke today
Post by: Jimmy Jon on February 05, 2011, 09:39:43 pm
My SLX 35, used twice - 30 minutes use max and one of the pole clamps has come off completely - very poor and not impressed, shame as it's a fantastic pole. Cost over £500 so don't really want to be fobbed off with a pot of glue and fix it yourself so will call gardiners on monday and see what their customer service is like  >:(

I'm sure you'll agree the SLX 35 is a fantastic piece of kit, I was gutted when it came loose and the poles just started spinning  :(

Ive got a 25ft slx, wanted something inbetween that and my bigger pole so got the 35ft, after recieving it 2 sections of my 25ft broke so I ordered a new 25ft and a extra 2 sections for my old slx so I got a spare, so for the rest of the day I had too use the 35ft which still was a breeze and cant imagine doing that with any other 35ft pole....

Just re glue using araldite
Or if you working, just tightly wrap a single strip of electrical tape on bare end of pole, then push hard into clamp, it works a treat.

You should ask for a replacement instead of a pot of glue, and you are using your consumer rights !

Couple of things will cause the glue to give. Over extending the sections being one of them and collapsing the pole too fast being the other main cause. Easy to fix should the time come.

Some of you must be animals when it comes to poles.  ;D

I'm still using my mark 1 SL-X! And did the clamp upgrade ages ago, no problems, ever!

Just give Gardiners a ring, it will be sorted without question and extremely fast as well.

I'm and slx user and have never had any problems with clamps coming off from them.  Not saying they don't have problems but I've never experienced any.  I have changed the mk1 clamps over to the new ones myself and the clamp fix is such an easy job to do it's not worth the hassle of sending the thing back if it does go wrong.

I did once have a hxtel (from another supplier) end cone came loose and that could only be fixed by sawing and re-gluing, point being that nearly all pole manufactures will have the odd problem.  What matters is if they then deal with it, some companies won't even acknowledge the problem where as Gardiners will sort it.  To re-glue the clamp is pretty easy to do.  Sorry to hear that the clamp bit your finger though.
