Good on the old bloke, true he isnt doing things to modern techniques and with todays health and safety is breaking many standards but hes probably done it many years and is happy at his job so why try and take the p. I wonder how many can still work like him at that age
-
That is Stu Mci's old man. After the clean he goes inside for a bit of hows your father. True as well.
When did you take that vid Stu? Was it last summer when you were hungover after your camping doo?
-
What a great bloke!
-
Been there, done that
Watching that makes me feel really jealous
A man who really loves what he is doing.
No worrys about running a fleet of vans, staff, huge fuel bills, making tons of water everyday.
-
well said dave, zero stress and a big smile on his face - makes you wonder who is better off?
As for the muppets who left derogatory messages about that man on youtube they clearly don't understand that his customers must be happy enough with the job he does otherwise they wouldn't pay him.
-
I took on a customer at the start of last year. She already had a window cleaner and said he is 73 but was worried everytime he got up his ladder to clean the dorma wndows. So we now clean the windows, and he sweeps the driveway. ;D

“Good on the old bloke…….REALLY”
I have put another post on yesterday
No need to leave the gate open
What’s the difference between the two post …none?
Well apart from the Old boy doesn’t show his arse
They both are breaking the law
They are both adding to a general public view that window cleaning, as an occupation is not a particularly skilled and trained occupation
This kind of activity adds fuel on the excessive underwriting and inflating of insurance policy premiums
Which you, me and and some of the better companies using the forum have to pay for
My post anyway was a jibe at the attitude of some of the forum users
Not at the old boy
Who if you take out his ledge walking activity I have the upmost respect for still grafting, and if Ronnie B post is true his nipping in for a bit of afternoon hows your father…God bless him :)

Andrew,
The difference is that the old guy is taking measured risks and the guy that walks along the fence is mad. How can you possibly compare the two.
They may both be breaking the law but I would not think that the public give a hoot about which one has been trained.
You are selling us training courses, badly.
Dave also wrote that he missed those ways of working but you aim your post at Trevor, is that because he has not applied to go on your ladder training course.
You do come up with some drivel.

Well it's not is it compared to other trades.....
It doesn't need to be either to run a succesful business,it's only people who see officaldom as an extra source of revenue that push the matter.
What like a judge when he prosecutes you? ;)

i did mention in my post that he wasnt following current health and safety standards as for the publics opinion of it not being a very skilled ocupation this is because many skilled ladder users make it look very simple when in fact it isnt i would even say that to be a competant ladder user takes far more skill than to become a competant WFPer this comment isnt a anti WFP post because from experience i know WFP is much safer and much quicker and is still a skill that has to be learned, also his method of cleaning the windows is a skill also, i know because mop and scrim was the way i was taught and believe me as a young lad leaving school that method really builds up your strentgh in the upper body no wonder the old bloke is still fit and working. This bloke has probably cleaned windows many years is very experienced and is constantly assessing risks that a less experienced cleaner would not notice, i would even go as far as to say he is less likely to have a ladder accident than someone fully ladder trained ladder user who has no actual experience but this is impossible to prove as the statistics on ladder falls do not include the experience and competance of the casualty. The difference of this clip and the one about no need to leave gate open are so vast i dont even feel the need to comment on it.

Depends if you follow the rule of law or not doesn't it?

And is the old boy in my post

No one can follow them fully just look at the manual handling laws even lifting 25kg water canisters out of the van is beyond their recomendations, on the pasma course at a wind speed of17mph you have to cease working on a scaffold but at 25mph the scaffold has to tied and at 40mph it has to be dismanled can you explain to me how you tie a scaffold or dismantle it when your not even allowed to be on it.
I do agree with you there are much safer ways of doing his job today but if he didnt change from mop and scrim to squeegee then i very much doubt he will change to using poles i think where laws are concerned the only law he is concerned about is the law of gravity and he seems to have avoided that up untill now ;D

Cleaning windows the PROPER way
-
contrary to what has been posted during this thread i am going to go on andrews laddertraining course when he next has an available date, i feel training is needed but not in the way it is offered at the moment although what andrew mentions on the ladder training thread about the content of his course does sound more beneficial. i will talk to andrew personally at the cleaning show and not raise any more issues on this forum as they seem to become counter productive to what both mine and andrews thoughts actually are.
