There is no need to dogear! do as kevin has said and use the squeegee at the right angles,
This will help you!
Question:
I waste a lot of time detailing windows after squeegeeing them, do I have to?
Answer:
No
Practice on a window, clean the window normally but do it very slowly, watch what is happening when you go across the top and down the sides, the marks that you are leaving behind are not there because of bad luck, they are there because something is happening to put them there. Sometimes you will find on a particular window you leave nothing behind, this is not good luck, it is because of certain rubber mouldings keep the end of the rubber on the glass. Now the times when you do leave something behind look very close and see why, the squeegee rubber is riding up on to the mouldings, this causes a gap between the glass and the squeegee rubber, which in turn leaves solution behind.
First off make sure you have a soft rubber, hard is no good it will leave marks down the sides. Probably the easiest way is to go across the top and down the sides at the proper angle, you want to go down the left side at this angle/ and down the right side at this angle\. Now see what is happening
Like I said it depends on the window, they are all different, if you can see, and understand what is causing the marks that you leave behind, then you are halfway there, it is just a case of perfecting your squeegee technique so that nothing is left behind.
Practise this technique and you will not have to detail takes time but you will get the hang of it! and you will soon be flying doing trad work!

thank you guys

Easy way to improve result: swab window and edge of frame. With a fairly dry cloth (a piece of old towel is ideal) wipe round the edge of the glass about 1/2" in from the frame, and as much of the frame as you can at the same time - ONE WIPE ROUND ONLY. Then squeegee - very little water at the edge so much better result ;)
Wring out bit of towel before doing next window.
With a bit of practice you'll be able to do this with no need to 'detail' afterwards

Well written - well done.
So now I know there are at least two of us that can squeegy properly 8)
If any of my staff were to wipe around the edges they would be shot! I teach them the correct way to squeegee - from day one and never mention to them anything to do with wiping.
There are a lot that do wipe because they don't squeegee properly.

Ian all you are doing is detailing before blading rather than after the whole point is to have no detailing!
-
i just brush and rinse! simple :P
-
cowboys some of you guys!! ;) ;D ;D you always need to detail slightly around most windows!!
as has already been said i brush and rinse mostly these days!!WFP!! ;) ;D ;D
Its impossible not to leave a little bit of water that needs wiping up.i suppose you dont clean the sills either lads? ;D ;D ;D ;D
-
yes mate i always clean the sills how long does normaly take you to do a 3 bedroom house
-
Dazmond i know window cleaners who have been cleaning for 30+ years and still can`t blade without detailing!
I think they are just set on their ways they don`t feel it is clean until they detail it when there is no need!
-
what would you do just leave the border its only about 2mm
-
neiljoust, get used to these angles / left \right and there will be no border to detail.
-
thank you will do

Aye but you are talking clean windows, whats the approach to a dirty window/frames?
-
Neiljoust
Do you have a shed in your back garden? If you do you can do what I did and get hold of a few windows I got a few out of skips!
Now what I did was to fix these windows onto the back of my shed to practise on at the weekends this helped no end, I spent hours on these windows to get my technique right!
I still have these windows today and I have 2 double glazed windows and one wooden window the reason I have kept them was when I started to wfp I still had these windows to practise on and still do as many people have different techniques that they use as you will see on the forum I`ll try all these different techniques because with wfp some windows require different techniques to be used on them!
Futhermore if you intend to do upvc cleaning of consevatories it is good to try out different products on these upvc practise windows to find a product that you will be happy with,
-
I think he knows that
I do ;)

thanks guys
