As the title says really, have any L5 users managed to install an LPG tank and run off of it. The L5 is great but when the bottle runs out in the middle of the day it can be a bit annoying.

I shouldnt say this really but I have bought one of these and I refill my bottles with LPG when I refill the van

It cost me £9 to refill a 6kg bottle better than the £18.99 they charge round here
it is afterall the same ol' propane

Trouble is, how do you know how much gas to put in? The proper tanks have a float shut off valve to leave a space at the top for the liquid to turn into a gas.

The adapter has a filling guide on the side so you know how much to fill it and still leave 20% empty
on a 6kg bottle its 11L
you must only fill an empty bottle so as not to over fill
I have 2 bottles when 1 runs out I swap over then fill the empty bottle ready for next time

Good idea Chris, but do you ever get any funny looks when at the petrol station fiddling around with the adapter?
Simon.

Hi Chris
Do you use one of these tanks or a normal red calor bottle?

I think he would have the red bottle, that is why he got the adapter so that he can refill it.

Hi Roy
Yes I am using the red propane bottles (it does however say on the bottles that it is illegal to refill them and should only be refilled by Calor) I was going to get a refillable bottle or another tank fitted but when I found the adapter it was a bit of a no brainer really and it works really well
You do have to have an ounce of sence when using it thou (not saying you dont btw) but some will try to fill it to the brim im sure, they do have to be filled to no more than 80% to allow for the gas to expand at the top

Simon
I dont get any strange looks when filling up cos I fill up at a local outlet not a large place and the owner did tell me that he has several people that fill various bottles there so hes not overly concerned he just likes to know that everybody knows the basics where cylinders are concerned
