got a new 450 gpd ro flushed it for just over 2 hours, now stoped flushing and started pruducing pure water but there is more water coming out of the waste pipe than the pure water pipe do i need to flush it for longer ???
yellow trolley nice ;D ;D ;D
-
that normal unfortunatly, mine is 4-1 waste to pure.
-
just filled up 25 litre drum and it took 50mins is this right for a 450gpd ro with a booster pump ??? ???
-
can yuo not adjust a tap to make less waste and more pure
-
dont know this is the one i got http://www.purefreedom.co.uk/compact-reverse-osmosis-systems-200-450-gpd-p-291.html but reading the discription further it only produces upto 500 litres. don't under stand how a 450gpd = 500 litres
-
give it a few days to settle down it then be fine,
just make sure that flush tap is on flush,ie when on flush there will be more waste than normal

The 450GPD is on american gallons (3.8ltrs)
I use this equation
450GPD x 3.8 = 1710ltrs / 2 = 855litrs (this unit will produce 855 litres of pure water on a 50-50 ratio.
The 450GPD is the amount off water that passes through the unit (pure and waste).
Hope this helps

If the tap is inline with the waste pipe then its on flush.
the tap has to be positioned adjacent to the pipe not parallel.

Also this time of the year it takes longer to filter the water, this is due to the water being colder thus making it more dense and harder to penetrate the membranes.

Hi
We have a 450gpd RO which, although from RoMan many years ago will be similar.
I think I am right by saying that the gallons produced are American gallons as the RO originated in America and certainly the best membranes come from America. The American gallon is smaller than the British Imperial gallon. (The British gallon is about 20% more than the American gallon.)
Thanks Matt for that confirmation. ;D ;D
Further, the purification figures are over a 24 hour period not a 12 hour day or night. The performance figures are also quoted at the optimum water temperature and water inlet pressure which you will probably never achieve.
We have a water pressure of about 60psi and use our system unpumped. In the winter with water at it's coldest, I estimate that it takes around 30 hours to fill a 1000 litre IBC tank with about 900 litres. Our water ratio is 3 to 1 (3 waste to 1 pure) as we have a fairly low TDS (90). RoMan also use to supply another waste outlet insert that gave a greater waste ratio of 5 to 1 for use with harder water, so that would produce less water per day.
I think you need to speak to Pure Freedom directly with regard to the technicalities of their system and why they quote the figures they do, but our experience using this system over the last 6 years should give you something to work on.

Hi Matt
The replacement membranes for these units are 150 GPD x 3. I was under the impression that this was the amount of pure that the membranes would produce under optimum conditions.

i have got to speak to them as the tds after ro and 10" ri is 002 i would have thought it should be 000 but not worried as i have read a few posts and people say that you can clean window with higher that 002 without spotting ;) so im off to the inlaws tommorow for a couple of hours pratice ;D ;D

I have been told and to my own experience its the total amount of water that the unit will allow through (including waste)
This time of the year I fill my IBC tank in just over 24hrs, I use a 500GPD (5 x 100GPD) and an aquatec booster pump and that give pressure of just over 100PSI

Are you using a DI vessel too?

Hi Matt
I see RoMan use the term "Permeate Flow Rate Gals/Day Liters/Day" for the 150 gpd membrane they quote TFM-RO-150 150 GPD 568 LPD with the following
"Note:
Performance specifications based on,
500 ppm tap water,
65 psi (0.47 MPa) applied pressure,
77°F (25°C) feed water temperature,
feed water pH 7
Recovery Element permeate flow may vary ± 15%"

Thats in lab conditions which won't be replicated for use in window cleaning, I find it's just sales pitch cr ap. lol
I am 99% sure if you accumilate waste and pure it will be the amount of your RO, i.e. 450GPD = 1710litrs

lol
Make sure the pure tap is the one going into your DI.
My 10 inch DI only lasted me about 2 weeks before having to change it.
I, on the odd occasion use water up to 5-6, most of the time I make sure its 000

wow. I see there is some other interesting stuff on RoMan website. Filtration will take 2.5 times longer at 5 degrees C than if the water was a 25 degrees C.
No wonder we always have a water shortage during winter.
Erith.
Once your RO has settled down your membranes should be purifying water to within 97 - 98%. In other words, if your TDS at the tap is 250 then your produced water should be around 5. Our membranes are still around 99% after 3 years, so we don't have to polish it off with resin, although we do to be safe.
I think the feeling on here is that you can safely do maintainence cleans with anything up to a TDS of 8 to 10, although I personally won't push it higher than 5.
When our water reading was 260 a few years ago we mostly cleaned with a TDS of 3 and 4 and never had any issues.

RoMan use the word "Permeate" which means to "filter through" which they quote as 150gpd for their 150pgd membrane

Hi, erith, I've been setting my pure freedom diy unit up this week and I had a similar problem, my ppm before R O is 450, after the RO it's 30, and after the DI it was 7 ( brand new system) . On the advice of justin from clean-n-clear I changed the resin which was supplied as he said it may be duff ( which it was) I'm now producing 000pm with new resin. Hope this helps

I was under the impression permeate means to pass through.
per·me·ate/ˈpərmēˌāt/
Verb: Spread throughout (something)
With this in mind the pure and waste pass through the housing of the RO.
Waste exits one outlet and pure exits through another outlet, but both pass through the RO housing.
