Didn`t have anything booked today,so chose an area to flyer close to where I had a quote this morning.
Spent 3 hours traipsing round a large well to do estate, big houses.
Booked my first quote within 20 mins of getting home, then another one for Monday.
Just e mailed prior commercial jobs, and booked a quote for tomorrow morning.
Waiting for person to confirm booking for Sat at a swimming pool.
Called the letting agents just so they remember me,as it`s been a couple of months since I had anything from them, need to start making some money
-
Nice one Mark.
As the old saying goes, you get back out what you put in.
-
or.....
he who dares...

It`s a case of not having a choice really, spent about half an hour trying to get through to the inland rev today, but gave up in the end.
Have been paying them £400 a month since July, still got £397 outstanding from last years bill + What i owe them on account,so it`s hard going.
The van purchase has eaten into my overdraft, which i don`t like using.
But in reality I should have been out dropping off flyers before it got too this point,I think a lot of people are still trying to get over xmas, let`s hope they all get a decent wage come Jan 28th and can afford carpet cleaning
-
Good on you mark.
Think feb will be a busy month :)
Your new van has given you some confidence maybe too..
-
Yes Clinton, feel much better turning up to quotes and jobs in that, and have everything i need to hand, instead of getting to job then fumbling around looking for measure, quote forms etc.
Thinking of getting some sort of laptop safe,so i can have everything work related on that, with a printer,so i can print stuff off,got loads of info on my new business account, and have to get to grips with Sage next, going to start using it in the next tax year, then i hope that will also reduce what i pay my accountant.
-
You will have to post some picies of your new set up mate.
-
Will do ;D

I've been paying monthly direct debits since last February
These have paid 09/10 bill plus payment on account 10/11
and I'm still in credit, best thing I ever did.
John
-
How did that work John ? Did you approach them saying you couldn't afford to pay it in a lump sum first ?
-
Steve, the IRS have become more flexible since the recession began when it comes to payment, Basicaly speak to your Accountant, And suggest paying Tax over 4-6 months, it shouldnt be a problem, although the torys may tighten up on this nest year
Seamus
-
i always thought they paid it back as soon as you overpaid, might start doing that this year.
-
I think what John means is he has set up a direct debit to pay an amount into his tax account each month,if you know roughly what tax you are paying you can budget,so it`s not a massive shock when the bill arrives
-
Will be a good idea for some to do the d d and then as mark said its all paid at the end of the year.
Any money extra will be returned or kept into the account..
-
Hi Guys
I too have set up a monthly direct debit so it's now just like another bill.
When July payment arrives I will have covered it.
Just go onto HMRC site amnd register.
Cheers

Steve
As Doug says set it up on site.
They don't automatically send any overpay back but
when you log on to your account it shows you the
credit and there's a link to click on to get the money
transferred back to your bank account as well.
The online tax return form is a doodle to do as well.

Well that def paid off, booked it at £160 just for a 6 month tidy up,Have got a big set of stairs to clean they are vinyl and covered in scuff marks, will post pic up in another post as not sure how to do them, also went into news agent to get cig papers and quoted him too,he is calling me back. And just booked a 3 bed with the agency for this arvo,so i won`t be flyering in the rain today ;D
-
It`s going from one extreme to the other here now, just been and quoted a house for £300,part of that is tile and grout cleaning in their kitchen, they had asked for other quotes off people, but the people they asked didn`t fill them with confidence, did notice some Crucial trading carpet in their downstairs wc,only about 15 sq ft,so not too worried about that, got to go and quote one from my flyer drop at one, then back home for the van, then off to clean a lounge.
Tomorrow got another big commercial to quote, then another 5 bed house to quote at 5pm,then back for my commercial job starting at 5.30 Fri eve.
Only 2 bookings next week so far,but I am feeling a little bit better, even if I am teetering on the brink of going under
-
Mark, I think i have caught your bad luck with vans, radiator gone on mine this morning.
On the plus side the work is starting to mount up, just need to get van fixed pronto!!
-
Oh no don`t say that, that`s terrible.
I must say mine is running a bit rough, notice in 4th 5th and 6th gear that it`s a bit sluggish, not as smooth as it should be,little bit like a car with muck in the carb, thinking it may need a new fuel filter ?
It`s worse since i put £20 worth of city diesel in at Sainsbury the other day, could there be water in the fuel,or does it sound like a filter,it will be going straight back to the dealer, while it`s still under warranty
-
Van should be fixed tomorrow, new rad £156. Just got a call from customer i cleaned for yesterday, daughter had been sick in bedroom, this time the dog has been sick, at least should pay some way towards the cost. So far Feb is looking very good as newbie, already got around 5 jobs booked.
-
Think feb will be a good month for us all i hope..
-
Mark,
I'm really pleased for you. I have to confess, I get lazy some times and what you did is great.
I read a brilliant sales book by Tom Hopkins (How to master the art of selling).
He makes a point that it's much easier to get out there and do something when your back is against the wall. He says the real money is made when you apply that approach when things are going well. I guess I get a bit idle when things are going OK.
-
Def finding that Gary, just booked one from my flyer drop,£180 worth of work, was well worth the 3 hours dropping flyers,my diary is looking good next week now,got 2 more quotes this arvo, one 5 bed eot,and a commercial office quote, then start my job that i called on the off chance at 5.30 this eve.
Waiting one one i quoted last night to get back.
Had a call this morning from an Indian guy i quoted £55 for 2 bedrooms,he said he ahad another company out to quote they were saying £50 and could i match it,said no sorry,he still booked me !! Not until march that one though...
Bounced 2 payments too Yell,so just called them and paid some off,it`s them and the tax man who are my main priority at the mo ,going to take a while before I am back in the black I think
-
I've actually booked one in for 21/03 which I think is a record for me.
Booked it 2 weeks ago as well.
John
-
Well won't get my van back till tomorrow as the part failed to arrive. But I have had my busiest day since starting back in August, done 5 quotes today and booked them all so with work already booked for Feb I am booked for the first 2 weeks of Feb, with just a shade under £1,000 of worked booked.
-
RE: paying the In Rev....a year or two back i was chatting to them about an overpayment i made, andf i joked "....and do i get any interest on that overpayment?..." she said "we don't pay interest anymore 'cos we found companys were overpaying by thousands and we were giving a better interest rate than the bank...!!!" i wish i could think like that!!!! :o
-
I've actually booked one in for 21/03 which I think is a record for me.
Couldn`t believe tonight's quote, priced up,then asked when they were moving out,end of April she said !! We will get back to you !
Now there is forward planning, but that is ott.
