I have been considering one of these options for a while but £499's quite a hefty price tag.  The trading standards round here run a scheme but you see check a trade round a lot more than the "buy with confidence" scheme both in terms of marketing from the organisation and members (on vans, webs sites etc).

I wonder if either of then carries more clout in the client's eyes?

Depends what your after.
Our report is here http://www.checkatrade.com/Willclean/

I think we have picked up 2 maybe 3 jobs because people like to use checkatrade to find their services so it has paid for itself but not a lot in excess of the fees.

Now on the other hand if you want some independant feedback of your previous work, in order to prove to a potential customer how good you are then this has helped us gain a lot of work.

Cheers Neil - yes I can see how that would work and make it worth it.

I can honestly say that we have converted every job that has come through but then these are the sort of customers who trust what they have seen.
In 8 months that be 4 jobs.
