what jacks do you all want to use . would your jack be good enough if you was to get a puncture when carrying water ?
my mate today got a punnture in a fiat scudo while carrying around 300 ltrs of water , hes jacked the van up using the standard van jack and while up in the air the van as come down all the threads on the jack were stripped .
CHECK YOUR JACKS .
make sure your jack is up to the job with increased weight in your vans .

All jacks supplied with vehicles have to be capable of lifting the vehicle at its maximum gross weight
was his van overloaded by any chance?

no at the max he had 300 ltrs of water in . just spoke to my mate and he says at the most there would have been 450 kg in the van when he got the puncture .

I had this a few years ago and posted a similar warning on here.
I had a fairly full tank (heavy load but within the limit) and I got a puncture.
I jacked up the van with the jack that was supplied with my Trafic.
I took the wheel off.
The jack collapsed. It was jacked at the correct point so no prob there. I had to throw the jack away.
I was very lucky. The brake disc hit the road about a foot away from my fingers.
I got the RAC guy out to do it for me as I had nothing to lift with.
I bought a more heavy duty jack after that but have never needed it.
Obviously I would rather keep my fingers but I do wonder if Renault could have been sued for a lot of money over this if I had been incapacitated.

i have recently thought about getting a much heavier duty jack anyway as i have recently had to change a few wheels due to punctures etc, andthe supplied jack is sooo slow and hardly and leverage , feel like im gonna break it some times also feels very unstable as it gets very near its capacity just lifting the car high enough to change wheel
what would be worth carrying? where would you get it from?
i remember my step dad had a stand that you slotted in after jacking, that might be a good idea to carry as if jack does go , you wont get the problem paul had!!

Hi
Allways kept a trolley jack in the van
But to be on the safe side,i am in a breakdown scheme

Breakdown cover does not normally cover you for a puncture.

oh really ? I have standard aa breakdown cover and they changed a flat for me when my jack was faulty
-
Yes but it would have to be extenuating circumstances such as you have mentioned.
The AA would NOT change your tyre free of charge just because you had a van load of water, and how much work time would you lose waiting for them.

Breakdown cover does not normally cover you for a puncture.
If you are on the motorway ALL breakdown companies cover punctures, the police insist you use the breakdown company.
A mate of mine had a puncture on the M5 and before he got the jack out the boot a patrol car pulled up behind him and told him to call the breakdown company.
