Title: anyone cleaned a chenille sofa?
Post by: Craig - CW Window Cleaning on January 21, 2011, 10:51:33 pm
Hi all
Just been to look at a sofa it is a synthetic chenille thread (off white / beige colour)  looks like its stiched or needle pucnhed into a pink backing weave its almost looped into the backing.
the chenille is in a pattern on the cushions.
I have done a burn test of the chenille which is acrylic/polyester and the backing material in acrylic and cotton thread too.
It is dirty on the contact areas arms, head etc. not really too dirty.
oh and the label said to use chemdry only if thats any relavance?

I tested a swatch that was available it faired ok on hot water and dye test.

What soultions or method would give best results??

never done this type before.. ::)

thanks

Craig

HWE as usual.

Pre test your chems before hand if you feel the need.

I'd use a pre-spray of Formual90. 2 scopes in a 5 litre sprayer.

Also make sure you groom the nap when your finished. Those hand tool strokes will set once it dries and will require another clean to remove them!!

Forget references to using ChemDry, Servicemaster etc - they pay tens of thousands to have their name on the label.

Generally cleans well and is a safe fabric but the main problem with chenille is dye transfer from jeans especially on light colours so if you see this, advise the customer that it may not come out.
