Been asked to quote for 18 communal areas each consisting of 4 landings sqm aprox 144 and 39 steps. Also got the wink if all four companies except the quote a discount would be acceptable. Any ideas what to go in at and what type of discount?

my advice...work the price out on time ... not area. How long will it take and what you are prepared to work for. Don't forget to take into account chems, fuel etc

time x hourly rate

Hi len i also would and do work out on how long it will take and if your happy with the final figure.
Sounds like a good job too and it might lead to more work too.

Or do a daily rate

get the price right... do a good job and it will save you thousands on advertising. The job it self is your advert. leave afew cards and the work will come in from it. Buildings have people in them and they have homes with carpets in them for you to clean.

Len, are you truckmount or a porty user?
I had a similar quote to this a couple of years ago and at the time i was wondering how to go about filling up water! ??? It wasn't practical to knock on peoples doors, The only way I thought was to hire a bowser and park it outside... but then how to i hight the water :'(
Luckly I never had to worry about this problem as they thought my price was too high :D
I would work out a an hourly rate << including your expenses and then determine how long its going to take you to complete the job.

if you use a porty on a job like this, ideally you need a machine thats been adapted... one with a float valve fitted in the fresh water tank, simply attach a hose, one end to a tap and the other to the inlet (hoze lock connector) on the machine. You have a self filling portable carpet cleaning machine.

My main stumbling block is the discount I should offer in the quote as never been asked before, here are my thoughts discount on volume 25% to 30% with an extra 10% if paid within 7days (not unreadable)

Both and also a lot of muck spread.
