Hi Guys
With all the changes to Google with maps and sponsored listings making it messier I have started using Bing for some searches and have found it clearer to use.
Does anyone else like the lay out?
Cheers
Doug

Where things might get interesting is a move away from using algorithms to judge relevance/authority and using human voting instead.
So for instance getting 'Likes' on facebook is a human vote. Bing is looking to do the same thing. Google is starting to do this through external reviews in Places.
Maybe Ian was right after all about SEO. ;D

Hi Alan
Happy newe year to you too, I trust the sites are working well!
Bing used to be MSN and it's relevancy wasn't as good as Google but I have been trying it recently and it's improved a lot and is clear to use.
I think Google is in danger of getting too complicated.
The trouble with any voting system is that is is really open to abuse whereas the current algorithm is less easy to fiddle.
On the general question of SEO I have always believed that fundamentally your site should be usefu,l and too much time trying to outwit the system is wasted and should be spent on building good content.

Hi Doug Yes the sites are bringing in a regular amount of calls/emails which is good news and i have just picked up some nice commercial stuff locally which is also very pleasing.Coupled with my daughter getting out of hospital after being in with pnuemonia brought on by swine flu then contracting pleuracy when she came out of the intensive care unit things should be on the up as i had a rather terrible run of luck at the end of last year.My daughter gets married in May so i need to haul my sad rrrrs into gear .Regards Alan Turner

Hi alan
That is excellent news about your daughter it is impossible to concentrate on CC when something that important is happening.
How much does a wedding cost a father these days, I've got a feeling I could be paying for one soon!
Cheers

Although it works well and looks ok statistics for bing dont look that great. Since it started in june 2009 it had a 2.96% market share, to date it has a 3.29% share. Bing uses sponsered listings at the top (because if they didnt they would have even less of the market share) maps next then organics below just like google??
Google has a 84.65% share of the market it has increased its market share from the same period by over 6%
Yahoo is next with a 6.69% market share. Yahoo and the many others have a very long way to go.
Search engines are advertising machines made to generate money for the owners and nothing else, sponsered listings will always be the most prominent.
regards,
Paul

tbh both are good search engines. i don't think you can really say google give better results then bing. sometimes you get what you're looking for with one search term, other times you don't. e.g. it's impossible to say that google's results are better when searching for "carpet cleaner in london". they both will be very similar. you may prefer the layout but i personally think google's is the best for layout (though i use searchpreview which is a godsend) and is what i will use for a long time i imagine.
