we are thinking of ripping up the laminate in the lounge soon and replacing with a nice cream carpet.
we will need to have gripper rods put back down but I'm just wondering if we could keep the underlay we have under the present laminate or would this not be any use with a carpet back down.
Since doing CC I have come to hate our laminated lounge and think that carpet is so much nicer.

I would replace it personally wayne with cloud 9 but it depends on the age & condition, & your budget
Steve barnett would be able to give you sound advice on this.

The stuff beneath laminate will be no good under carpet, not if it's owt like the stuff I have fitted in the past.
Cloud 9 is the underlay we tend to go with and it is top quality. I'd strongly recommend it for you.

As Steve says, I'd replace with Cloud 9 Cirrus underlay. I doubt the laminate underlay is up to the job. You'll probably have a height issue too if the existing underlay is any more than a couple of mil lower than the gripper. It might look ok when first fitted but would look tatty and baggy round the edges when it settles. Good underlay will add many years to life of your carpet...well worth the extra few quid.

Carpet for carpet cleaners? Luxury! ;D

Carpet underlay acts as a shock absorber preventing premature wear. Laminate underlay is for err I don't know the stuff should be banned.

You are a carpet cleaner and you are going to choose cream as the colour for your own carpet?

If i was putting down cream in the lounge, it would have to be polyprop something like this

Underlay, get a sample of tredaire Red.
It's 11.5mm thick and really luxurious.

My Mrs is a child minder and I have a white woolmix berber in my living room.
Its had about as much protector as it can absorb. (Chemspec Stainshield Professional)
I chose this colour because I can bleach out stains if need be.
A tub of absorb a stain under the kitchen sink has meant I havent had to do anymore that just give it a highlight clean every 6 months.
I did however buy a machine washable suite tho.
It floats on cloud 9 too.

I didnt take the laminate up. Just put a good quality underlay down and then the carpet. Wonderful.
