I never mentioned any diet from 1000s of years ago, it was you.
In fact it was so ludicrous a post I thought you were on a windup, now it seems you meant it
Matt, the diet you described sounds like the Paleolithic Diet aka Paleo Diet, which is just another fad. It's based on what paleolithic man may have eaten or rather not eaten. There are a lot of clues in your post that the diet your fitness guru recommends is really recommending the Paleo diet, and even though he may not name it, that's what I suspect it is.
I wasn't on a wind up, so there's no requirement to keep abusing me, mate. I'm only disagreeing with your information; not you.

Tosh
P.S. You don't have to be a nutritional expert to know that to lose weight you just need to reduce your calorie intake to say 1200 calories per day and exercise.
P.P.S Reducing stress can also play a major factor in preventing overeating.

Ive gotta say this...
Matt and Tosh you are both top guys and give some great info on here , but I wish you two could just get on!
;D ;D

I've no problems with anyone; I'd just rather we discussed the subject matter rather than get personal. Principles before personalities an' all that!
I'm not sure why Matt got bent out of shape in that last post; other people disagreed with his information also.

Eat less exercise more , simples. £30 please

finally someone solves it. no need for fad diets eat healthy varied diet and get moving. its working for me

Thats what I was saying in the last thread but he dismissed it . I was only trying to save you money matt.

I think with maintaining a healthy diet there can be other issues (this doesn't mean I'm saying this is always the case), and different fads and diets mask these.
In my experience, when I over ate, it was because of stress and anxiety; or I simply wasn't feeling right. So to distract myself from these feelings, I'd think a chocolate bar may help. I'd eat one, and then it almost triggered a craving for more junk food, so I'd eat more chocolate and crisps.
Avoiding the first Mars Bar is important to me.
I've since found healthier methods to reduce stress and anxiety, and because of that, I find I don't need to eat all the rubbish I did when I stopped drinking. As a consequence, dieting isn't a problem because I have changed my relationship with food via some simple tools that keep me calm and relatively stress free.
-
once you get into the mentality of working out the junk food takes a sideline.
you leave a gym on a high you feel the workout you just did and sudenly that bag of crisps seems pointless. 11 grams of fat in a snack the same calories as a tin of soup, which is my dinner.
i am working out 3 days and swimming 5 with a week end off. even though my weekend is meant to be free from diet and working out i find i dont eat rubbish then either.

I can see how that works. You get the natural endorphins (natures happy chemicals) produced in your brain, you feel good about yourself, and you feel less stressed.
However, Wor Lass is a seriously competitive runner; she represents East Wales, wins loads of trophies, has competed in mountain marathons and trains seriously hard six-days-per-week. Her last long run on Sunday was 23 miles; and that's just training.
Yet the rubbish she eats when she's not on form, you wouldn't believe. :o

its an amazing feeling and i see why people get adicted to working out.
before xmas when we had -5 tempretures i couldnt work so went to the gym, nice workout then a sauna and a swim. felt brilliant.
the best thing i did was learn to swim last november

1200 !!
my 2 year old probably has that many a day
its not good for you to just cut calories, your body goes into famine mode and piles the weight on much quicker when you up your intake again
and if you start upping your activity along with your diet you will become under ourished
much better to eat sensibly not less, and exercise more :)
losing weight and being healthy is no secret, dont b a lazy ass and dont be greedy :)
unless you have specific health problems, diet is simple
carbs, proteins, veg and fruit are all needed, just make sure it moderate and balanced :)
ps, i am slightly over weight, i am just under 13 stone and should be around 12 stone
knowing what to do , and doing it are a world apart, however i have just started training again, for a 6 day bike ride in august, however i am still quite fit, i play football 2-3 times a week one game is 2 hours and never have a problem running the length of the pitch, the ladder work helps keeping fit !!
being a little over weight isnt necesarily a sign someone is unfit, but it does show that diet is out of balance!

Yes, Shaun, you're right! I'm not a calorie counter; I just cut out most (not all) of the bad stuff. I'm a vegetarian also, which I think helps.
-
Read the book fast food by Jason vale what a eye opener on food and drink
-
a friend of mine has just started on a body building type regime and has gone vegi with it, you dont need meat for protein, as as a protein supply meat comes with alot of fat, your better with lean meat if you eat it or even better chicken, turkey, fish etc
tuna is the best protein as it is hardly any fat but nearly all protein,
i was big into going gym and training for a few years when in college but lost the desire after about 18 , i just play sports and am lucky enough to enjoy mountain biking and use that for fitness but it means that a few months a year (winter) i dont have the time or daylight to bother, so get a bit heavier but i soon lose it with a few big rides and am never more than a stone over what i shoud be

It is work related.
Fatty Bateman wanted to lose weight so he could increase his water carrying capacity without erring over the maximum load bearing capacity of his van.

im glad im not the only one on a diet. i gave up whisky, sugar free pepsi and chocolate on the 30th of december. getting a bit addicted to them, (no self control) lost about 2kilos so far.
replaced the junk with fruit juice, fruit, nuts and raisins. im not overweight, just a bit of a pot.
i should put the money i save into a jar, that will help me stick to it. i must spend about £100 a month!

Well done, fella. With regards the whisky and the chocolate, when I stopped drinking I ate a lot of chocolate and someone told me that, chemically, sugar is very similar to alcohol.
It definitely wasn't the same though.

it is hard. i used to enjoy my whisky fridays after a week of work. but alcohol is worse than illegal drugs in some ways.
