Tomorrow Connected it up and get it all certified and Checked, then it's Gas time anyone else running on Gas, Hoping a tank will last all week its 95 litres but there is the burner for the heater as well so hmmm.
-
My saving is about 40% on petrol plus I have a big tank so I fill approx once a week, are you having it run on petrol and gas? HM recommended to me that I start on Petrol at the beginning of the day and then after 30 mins go to gas.

Hi Shaun its GAS all the way apparently according to the makers ( wisconsin) the engine is fine with it, And I have has the same set up on my generator that powers my place thats off grid, so I'm hoping that it gas all the way.
The Difference is that the engine is air cooled so it needs a vapour lpg tank to run it ( just like a regular propane cylinder ) And that has took some effort to find a certified one.
Where as a water cooled engine uses liquid propane feed to a vapouriser that is heated with your engine coolant ( hence it needs to get warm first )
Would have minded doing your way but I had to do it this way as the burner is also vapour feed, so it would have meant two tanks, must admit I'm kind of interested myself as to how it goes when I finish, the Maths is right by lets face it Theory is never the same as practice when it comes to carpet cleaning.
-
wouldn't have been easier to just use a regular propane tank then just swapped it when it was empty, you could keep 3 or 4 on hand.
how long will it take to recoup the cost of the conversion through the saving you will make switching?.
I looked at switching my jeep to gas but it would have taken me 3 years to get my money back and i didn't end up keeping it that long.
-
I was doing just that before christmas as the burner is Gas, but it draws to much for a bottle at full moo, and the bottle ices up and water temp drops, the tank is only £250 so I'm prepared to pay that to keep it simple. The thinking is a horizontal tank has more exposed liquid gas surface area that a upright bottle approx 4 times ( i.e the surface of the gas boiling off inside that counts so think bucket( bottle) to bath(horizontal cylinder)
Hopefully it will all work finger crossed
Got to do my sisters in Selby soon so will give you a bell we can have a truck off!
-
Think we will all be going this way as the pain of petrol prices increases.
-
diesel engine, diesel burner..... all on red :D :D about £25 a week for both
-
Yep that's another good option.
I've even considered padding the 'look clean ones' recently :-[
-
My Maxx 470 runs on cherry red, get it off my mate, still at 50p litre.
Even then he dosnt bill me, his missus just gets something cleaned.
Quids in ;)

Do you guys find you get the same number of hours out of it as you do at the pump?

My creation she lives!

Hi Paul,
I have a 95 litre tank on my machine which is a 68 hp Thermalwave. I get about 2 days or so from it. 1 week sounds optimistic unless your machine is extremely economical or you call 3 hours a day :)
My 95 Litre tank actually takes 74 litres before it cuts off the pump. You will probably find similiar.
Well done for doing it yourself. Alltec did mine. By the way mine starts on unleaded and them automatically switches over to gas after about 2 mins warm up.

You're engine is 2.5 times bigger than mine, I have a 27 briggs but most of the time I'm only on half revs my work is approx 50-100ft from the van, my preferace is to work a decent day not half a day I'd say my TM is running 5 hours a day.

Shaun,
As you will see my post was addressed to Paul who said that he hoped to get a week from his 95 litre tank. I think he has a similiar sized engine to mine hence my comment. Nowt to do with you ;D

I am interested in fully converting mine to gas if possible. I have a propane burner and petrol engine 20hp onan engine. What do i need to convert the engine to run on gas?
-
No probs Nigel wasn't said in anger just more factual, I did notice a few years ago that Simon Gerrard said that he was using petrol at £12 an hour on the long pipe runs to the ships.

Shaun
That will be due to Simon running at full revs with multiple long hose runs. He can afford it :)

About £450
-
Paul you can do mine when your finished ;)
-
Looks good Paul how many litres does that beast burn p/h?
Thinking of having my 18hp Briggs converted but some say the conversion causes the engine to run hot, anyone had a smaller engine converted?
At nearly £7 per gallon starting to look worth the risk.

Was looking at this for mine 25hp kohler engine is going to be expensive to run

which one does mine come under, (boxer 421) might do some maths to see if its worth it.

Sure they have briggs and stratton engines on the boxer 20 or 22hp
-
well i was told mine was a 21hp, 421, 4 blower with 21 hp, hence 421 but according to that chart it only does (like you pointed out) 20 or 22, so either ive been sold short (boohoo) or i got a 22hp motor, (woohoo)

Anyone thinking of doing a conversion might find these interesting been thinking about it for some time with prices getting even higher might have to take the plunge mine is a 1200cc Nissan a12 engine on the Performer.
