Shame as I enjoyed doing this place.
It was the biggest, moneywise, and frequencywise (3 weekly). Worth 3K a year, so quite sizeable as domestics go.
They've been having shedloads of work done there. That is coming to an end and the owner has decided he wants someone on-site permanently. Part of his job-description is to look after the windows. Think he'll be doing the garden and general property maintenance too.
Ho hum, better replace it with something bigger ;)
-
Must have been quite a place!
-
ouch
put in for the job then matt ;D ;D ;D
-
Is that final then Matt, no negotiation?
-
how long did it take to do was it a long job.
-
It would appear the owner has his wishes Kate about how to run the place and that doesnt include outside services.
I was told there may be an occasion where they will call, guess that depends on how well matey does his job on the glass.
Still, I thrive on a challenge and I already had some plans in the pipeline re: new/quality work. Guess this is just another encouragement to implement those ideas.
Lost another biggy this time last year, it concerned me for a day, after that it seemed like a minor blip. Now I woluldnt have time to do that place.
I guess losing something like this just drives me on, I can see me having some smaller domestics for sale in a month or two
;D ;D ;D

Yep Matt, onwards and upwards

I make that about £176 per clean - way bigger than anything I do. There is one job where I get more than that - but only when I do the insides too.
Sorry to hear that you lost it.
I lost my second biggest payer the other day too. It wasn't a very well priced job (it was just about OK) and sometimes got in the way of other work. However, it was my second biggest earner due to the frequency (weekly as it was a shop). That would represent a turnover loss of around £1,300 p.a. In reality it's rather less than that because on the weeks I did the insides, it delayed me from doing other work because I had to hang around for the shop to open. So it does free up about 26 hours per year for me to make much of it up.

It was £190
-
Hi Matt, thats harsh. Hhow did you get a 190 job by the way, if you dont mind me asking??

Sometimes you are in the right place at the right time. And that's all that this one was. So in this case no flashy flyer, no great referral, not off the website, just good fortune.
If I'd not forgotten my van keys as I left the house that morning I wouldnt have been where I was when I came across the enquiry.
-
matt i cor believe this chap is doin the windows as a maintainance contract give him a ring and see if a negotiation can be arranged or set up a flyer with a different name and contact see if he will bite prob wants a cheaper deal see wat happens

I'm not too keen on the big jobs Matt. I think your rates are better than mine, but as in your day rate thread, not many are happy with 400pd.Our business is based on working for a lot of customers for about twenty minutes, or ten even, and charging small amounts that give a good hourly rate.Hopefully they never reflect too much on the bigger picture.
I'm guessing but i bet the handy man will have two hard and cold days doing what you do in about three hours, good luck to him, but the guvnor obviously thinks if you can do it maybe a live in polish polish person would work a fortnight for that money.
If this colonel type ever meets you in the pub and tells you as much, say yes, but i gave you a good caning for a while old boy.
-
What classifies as a 'small amount' in London by the way? - i think it is almost impossible to charge £6 for a semi and have enough for a few pints in the evening - especially with costs being what they are - though i canvassed today and one of the persons said his last window cleaner was charging that amount..
Anyone from London willing to share average prices of semis / detached?
Cheers,
Rob

chin up matey, they'll most likely come back to you when they realise that whoever else they get in will probably spend half the week getting round the windows.
We lost a £340 house (yes thats right - £340), its a huge stately home owned by a certain celebrity - he got a housekeeper in and told us that she would be doing the windows. 2 months later he called me to say it took her nearly a fortnight to clean them and she nearly killed herself a couple of times (Apparently she didn't like ladders!!) and could we come back to do them on a permanent basis - of course I took the job back, its every 2 months and the groundsman pays us cash while we are there.
Nice
So don't worry chum, it'll come back to you.
-
Cheers fellas ;@)

First post after the New year I opened was to say our services are no longer required on a contract we had with Eddisons property services, that was £5100 a year.Great way to start the new year ???
By the way that was by far our biggest earner ???
As Matt says socks up,sleeves up,chin up and get it replaced asap. ;)

Sorry to hear that matt, i will be round to see you in a week or so with.????????

Matt,
Why 3 weekly?
My biggest domestic was £120 (but I lost that), but that was every-other-month. When I quote for a large property, I try to stick in a high price with a longer frequency (I use the longer frequency as a selling point, commenting that many window cleaners still stick to doing every-four-weeks; which they do).
Don't you think if you'd done it every 8 weeks, rather than every three you may still have the job?
Nice while it lasted though.

I think the guy had OCD or something Tosh, it was a lovely place, immaculately cared for. He never seemed to lift a hand though. He had someone come in each day to do his cooking, a personal trainer, one of these places with its own laundry room. The dog kennel windows were £30!.
The architect fees were £250,000 let alone the cost of the actual work.
But he lived alone, quite sad really; a wonderful house with the River Test running through the grounds. Swans, trout, refurbished watermill with working wheel for an office and windows cleaned every 3 weeks just because thats what he wanted I guess.
He's a Canadian oil trader. Owns oil-wells in Africa. His own jet with pilot on call.
Still, we'll see, maybe he'll decide that matey leaves smears in which case I might get a recall.

Steve I see you called mate, sorry couldnt answer was in the gym. Catch up soon ;)
-
loyalty matt where does it get you at the end of thge day pathetic excuses to get rid of ya he will be on the blower soon mate begging to av those windows gleamimg again what would you do then if he does
-
Ill go back, if I didnt Id be biting my nose off to spite my face.
That kind of money 'talks' in all honesty.
-
On a lighter note I quoted a large beach front property last week, thinking it was a one off, at £100.
She said "yes thats fine, every 8 weeks would be great!"
This is now my biggest paying single domestic job.
Keep ya chin up Matt, you never know whats around the corner ;D
