If you don't have them already, Cleansmart have .PDFs on the NN and other marketing ideas. They all work but you obviosly have to put the work in.
-
hope you enjoy the course derek knows his onions

paul i find them worthwhile as i do pick up a job from them on most occasions and this is quite often after i had previously delivered flyers in the street it may be due to customer seeing the van sitting outside their neighbours and then getting the neighbour nudger through the door prompts them to phone.

In general terms who gets on in marketing a business?
Someone who tries everything rather than looking to others and finds out for themselves. They then either try and improve on it or ditch it.
Most people don't try something at the hint of it may not work for them. Worst of all though is doing something that doesn't work very well but keep on doing it because you feel comfortable with it.
Does that help. :-\

I've got a real snazzy neighbour nudger, I even used it as general leaflet and put it out in the 1000s it works well but no better than if I used my normal leaflet.
do we really believe than people will get their carpets cleaned just because their neighbour has,
So the nudger still has to do that elusive thing....... find a person who is thinking about getting their carpets cleaned.
so why don't we just do 5 or 10 or 20 around with our normal leaflet, which will often have more information to entice the receiver.
-
The neighbour nudger works on social proof. Some people will buy a new car they can't afford, pay an extra 20% for the priveleage and all because the want to keep up with the neighbours. But whether that applies to having carpets cleaned may be stretching it, but that's the theory.
-
I can understand the need for social proof but does'nt it need to be visible to work, buying a car to keep up with the neighbors will only work if its parked on the drive so the neighbour can see it.
having a carpet cleaned is relatively invisible so has no real 'keeping up with the neighbours' effect.
I would guess the only real advantage with a nudger is the security factor of seeing a physical presence of the company rather than a advert in a paper or YPs
-
I think you are right Mike and this is why we get lounges and hallways, yet the dirty beggars will sleep for years in their own filth because no one sees it.
That's why before we get into CC we assume Jan will be busy but its Dec and other times where visitors are likely.
-
Isn't the idea of a neighbour nudger to work as a referal? No 10 has theirs cleaned so No 12 gets a leaflet and asks No 10 what you are like?
Not sure if neighbours 'neighbour' like that anymore.

Actually scrub what I said about social proof. I got it wrong. Shaun is correct it's not keeping up with the Joneses it's more a referral thing, or at least they feel they are taking less of a risk if a neighbours had you in.

thats part of it and might work work for the direct neighbour. but the days of neighbours (housewifes) chatting over the back fence as the hang out the washing has long gone, with both homeowners working alot of the community spirit has gone.
I get more jobs from people recommending me to work colleagues than neighbours.
perhaps we should do a 'workmate nudger'
-
My nudgers always state the name and address of the client for whom I have been cleaning and suggesting they make contact to see the quality of the work. (I always get the clients permission and always ask which of their neighbours they would recommend I put nudger leaflets through the doors of.) (Damn, I've just finished that last sentance with a preposition-dunce's cap for me!) ::)
If nothing else it means neighbours may find out the actual names of the neighbours to whom they have never spoken.

It's like Surprise Surprise, "here's your neighbour who you've never spoken to" is Nurse Carpet Cilla?

Absolutely identical to what I do
Mike do you hand-write those two thing son your NN's? If not, it IS just a "normal" leaflet isn't it? So it would be logical to expect the same result as a normal leaflet!!
I think you're dead right that you have to catch someone who has the need, but it can also ignite the flame and create a need too, surely
Sometimes because the quantity you deliver is so small it can be many weeks between jobs for them, but for me it is the most cost effective marketing I have ever done.
I am considering spending a day re-delivering.... even though it's been weeks or months since doing the job, I reckon it must be worth a shot to go and do another round of NN's from 6 months ago for example.
I could call it a Neighbour Nudger Nudger :)

I think you should call it your Neighbour Nudger Nudger ;) ;) instead
In other words a neighbour "Nudger Nudger Wink Wink"
"Say no more"!
(With apologies to Monty Python)
