It's still a good way for someone starting off and has some advantages over other methods but anyone who has done it a long time and I'm sure you've noticed this Shaun if you still do them is response gets less and less every year. It's a bit like spending £1000s on YP and seeing less and less response whilst websites and social media stuff just keeps going up.

Sometimes we carry on doing things out of habit. In the cold light of day it looks like it's only going one way though. I would be gutted to let my girls go though, which I know is not logical but they have done me proud.

Any advertising when you are quite is better than none...leaflets are cheap and work will not come to you if your sitting on your backside moaning about having no work.

I find a leaflet works well. Any type of advertising is good. Its all about using what ever space it is, to its best ability. Example. We placed an ordinary advert in a newspaper for 6 weeks and had hardly anything from it. We decided to test the method by placing an advert of the same size but advertising FREE carpet clean. The phone went mad and yes we went out and cleaned all respondants a carpet for free. But It wasn't the advert that was actually our advertising... It was the FREE carpet clean. We got loads of ...how much for this... how much for that and have gained over 40 regular anual cleans from it. Another good thing about the FREE carpet clean was it can be run against tax as an expense.

You cant be very busy then? 200 a day plus work?  :o

I do about 500 a month, set aside 2 - 3 days to drop in selected areas!  ;)

Think you'll find that Mark delivers them on an evening.
I usually average about 140 an hour but probably more
on terraced houses.

Dont like posting leaflets, but as Im still fairly new to CC,its a necessary evil.

As said earlier,if you have no work, its better than doing nothing.

i put out flyers as regularly as i can and may not get interest right away but find people may phone a month or so later and when doing any jobs i would then do a number of neighbour nudgers in the street as opposed to pushing another flyer through and do find i quite often get another job in the street from this even thogh they did not respond to my original flyer.

Hi Ian , Sorry to be thick but what is PPC

I see that as "pay per click"  again as with all forms of advertising sometimes they work, sometimes they don't.

Paul PPC = pay per click, I think.

Shaun.
I delivered leaflets at night a couple of months ago, and had booked 7 jobs for 3 1/2 hours leafletting. One guy chased me down the street to get my advice, and booked, and one called when I was in the next street. I think it is all about timing. I have spent all day leafletting with no response.

I went out door knocking today (leaflets are essential for this), certainly not going to sit around waiting for the phone to ring.

Picked up 3 new customers within an hour and then had 2 phone calls from leaflets I had dropped earlier this morning.

Leaflets, PPC, Local ads, newsagents, chip shop!

Advertise everywhere you possibly can, everyone lives in a house with windows, everyone is a potential customer.

good advice - when i moved from essex to north wales years back i did the same thing to get my firm up and running again , went out with flyer's and knocked the door's the next night ,, i got loads of people invite me into their  home to give them a quote to clean the carpets etc etc , and booked lots of jobs in from it , probley the best way to get work i think, but you got to be able to handle the No's also  ;D
but then im also a window cleaner so we have been doorknocking for years to build up the round's so lucky that dont scare us  :o

Strangley only 3 percent of population have the correct personality traits for door to door sales

I would advise anybody new to the Industry to join a Double Glazing Company do Utility or Sky sales or Eiesmann for six months before starting in Carpet Cleaning

secret - big smile , big breath,  knock on door , sorry to bother you, even bigger smile now  , we posted a leaflet through your door last night , ( they look at the leaflet you holding on your clip board  ) and we wonderd if you would be interested in a free quote for carpet cleaning/ window cleaning etc etc , keep the leaflet held high so they can see it .
Most will say - i did see it come through the door and was thinking of giving you a call ( they would of never called , so good job you back on the door)
some say no, not seen the leaflet ( good job you back on the door with it in there face lol )

answers..
YES ..... then you talk the arss of a donkey lol

NO ..... then say thank you for their time .... BUT if they ever need a quote in the futre please keep the leaflet and give us a call.
then move on to the next house quick while you still in the flow

this is all you need to say .

you only have 20 sec's max on the step so you have to be quick to the point .

it's a number's game ,  it's great if two of you go out in a pair and one does one side and one the other , at end of the road you see who is the winner ... lol
