Title: starting to flap a bit
Post by: tom2009 on January 09, 2011, 07:34:45 pm
mainly due to a bit of a back log - unpredictable weather etc. Don't want to let the customers down but can't perform miracles either, mix that with a few late payers and I'm actually feeling a touch of stress. Is this normal? (it's my first winter)
anyone else feel the same way?

Tom

one good bit of news is that I managed to get a customer who owed me from 14th OCTOBER  :o :o to cough up (he owed 2 - 14/10 & 9/12) thats 30 quid I thought I'd never see. Persistant knocking pays off, that and camping on his front lawn.

Every January is about right. You may also find that they are not overjoyed to see you when you can get there. Many people have spent a lot of money, and will be watching the pennies until the jan/feb pay cycle.

Just grit your teeth and do what you can when you can. By march it will all be over and the spring cleaning will begin.

good luck

We are but mice in a reality, but in a cage on a wheel.

it teaches you to have an emergency fund set aside,  which every one says they will do and very few do

I'm not so much struggling for cash flow more that I've got a lot on. Keep pluggin' away seems the concensus. One day though I'd like to get off the 'wheel' and chill for as long as I want.

Not saying that I'm stressed but there are hand and footprints across my ceilings  ;D .
It's always a good idea to have some money put aside for any time - not just winter.  Or, at worst, at least have access to a bit of emergency credit.
If it's just about doing the work rather than about cash flow, well no point stressing about stuff you can't change.  The customers know how it's been.  I don't think any of them would seriously expect their window cleaner to be on time after the few weeks we've just had (and some further north are still having).
Any customer that ditches you for not putting your neck on the line in the ice is a customer who isn't worth having anyway.

thats very true about "mice in a wheel " as it surely feels like that to me !  step into that wheel at 9 a.m.

a lad has been asking can i take him on, yeh sure thatd take some pressure off me temporarily(if hes decent)   but it will also make it just A BIGGER WHEEL to turn !

Full day in today, actually felt some sunshine although only for a brief moment. Feel in control when you can get cracking. Thanks for replies. I've a feeling it's going to be workable weather from now on in.
