Can someone explain why a Prochem Steempro has a PSI of 90 I believe and a Scorpion has 300?
What difference would this make?
-
In simple terms the Scorpion has more raw power, which comes in handy on really minging jobs.
I have a Ninja with 400 psi but I've rarely used it at full power and clean most of the time using somewhere between 150 and 200 psi.
-
I don't think the Prochem machine is adjustable.
Are others adjustable?
-
Extracta machines are but only do upto 100psi.
Alltec are and do upto 1200psi.
Ashbys are upton 400psi.
Amtechs are upto 500psi.
-
Airflex from Cleansmart up to 600 psi
-
OK, so would you guys say that the Prochem is under powered?

90 is under powered to anything 91 and over.
To be honest with what is available then 90 psi is def under powered.
Depends what you want to do with it but why buy something so limited in capability.

No,
100 is enough if using the right Solutions and agitation

HI Mark,
Thanks for that. The pump went recently and was replaced with a 140psi model if memory serves me right but I have joined a forum or two recently and when I read that people were having 500psi pumps fitted to machines, I started to get a little worried.

I've tried using my wand at 200psi and it's
not very good.

It all depends on what cleaning system you are using.
If you want to use a detergent in-the-tank based system then a higher temperature and pressure is handy on dirtier jobs.
If you are using a prespray-agitation system then, as they are usually free rinsing, a lower pressure and cold/luke warm water is sufficient.
I use an Advantage with 135 pump, cold water and two high power vacs and get very good results from EOT jobs.
It is very much horses for courses and sorting out what suits your own personal method of working.
When I started a 35 psi single vac machine was about all there was.
If you are doing miles of pub and commercial carpet then a large truckmount will come into its own, otherwise unless you are having problems carry on as you are and don't worry too much!

Well it beats me why you'd want to have a very high psi. Dont we want to clean the pile of the carpet. Sounds like some people are striving to clean the back of the carpet as well with such high psi's.

Use high hot pressure on very dirty polyprops, cuts through the dirt.
Wool or wool mix turn pressure right down for fear of over wetting.

Would it be fair to say that the higher the pressure the better the vac power you'd need to back it up?

Yes

To prevent overwetting and further problems the higher pressure, a better vac is needed, but changing jets could combat/prevent the issue. Also a higher presssure aids the flushing.
-
just a quick question does anyone use numatic ct machines for carpet cleaning and if so what pressure are they?

Is this a real question?
I wouldn't even hire one out ;D
