having trouble with my promount 20,frozze over xmas ,got it defrosted and apart from the pressure gage being pushed up and my new zero is 1000,but everything seemed to work ok,but today was doing a mop job and although there was no solution line attached,the t/m was making funny noises from the two heat exchangers the water in the header tank was warm and it seemed to be dumping red hot water,attached my bleeder hose it spat some rusty water out then pure steam.
i unplugged the bleed hose gave it 10 mins and started her again,then the hose wich goes to the jet in the bottom of the header tank blew off,water everywhere any ideas please!!!!!!!!

Its something internal...the damage would have been done when it froze.Water has expanded and broke something somewhere. I was just giving you the worse case.
With a bit of luck its not that bad.
I would get it checked out and invest in a van heater of some type. My oil filed rad is in the van every night freeze or not at this time off the year.

Does it have a clutch for doing flood work ?
I have a Prochem Blazer and have to put the solution line on and pull and small amount of water thro every now and then, It might have just got to hot ??
I would be tempted to try it on a normal job !

Ady I don't understand the actual problem,
so... water is flowing from the pump through the heat exchanger and returning back into the waterbox.... is this water too hot? causing the water box to supply hot water into the pump? should it normally be dumping into the waste tank?.
if you are getting steam then the flow through the H/x is to low, is the pump OK
Dave Ingram is very knowledgeable with these machines and I believe Paul moss has one, might be worth ring either of these guys

Does sound like it just got too hot and your getting steam causing spluttering and probably will shut down. Presumably you were weren't running a bleed off to prevent overheating? I believe the rad circulates back to the waterbox, if that pipe got v. hot it may have losened the hose.
This is your BEST case scenerio. Try it tomorrow with an open ended sol hose as you may have an airlock.
Scrub the rad theory I was thinking Blazer ::)

The clue could be in the brown water coming out!!
Sounds to me like the 'Y' filter behind the outlet could be scaled up.

Paul is right when doing flood work you still have to have a flow of water through the heat exchangers to stop it boiling (pos the noise you could hear). Seems to me a lot the water in the HE's became steam and blew the pipe. If that is the only problem you have been lucky.

thankyou all for your help, it was what dave lee sugested from now on i will put out a bleed hose when on a mop up job.

Hi Ady,
I've had a promount 27 for 3 years now and know all about their problems. As mentioned earlier you need a bleed pipe bypasing while you're doing extraction I even have to attach one when doing upholstery otherwise it'll dump all the water or overheat if the thermostat decides not to work.
The thermostats are basically useless and fail all the time as do the other sensors on the machine so best to be extra vigilant (?) and keep an eye on it evey few minutes.
I think with the 20 you only have one water outlet, in that case you need to split it and add a shut off valve to each outlet. Then attach the bleed hose to one and your solution hose to the other. Then put the open end of your bleed hose directly into the top opening of freshwater tank and open the valve slightly to allow a constant flow of water.

Simple detachable bleed hose assy. Blue line is the bleed with shut off valve, black is the solution line to the wand.
