Title: commercial canvassing
Post by: GB Window Cleaning on January 03, 2011, 09:24:50 pm
okay, so im gonna start canvassing some commercial propertys this year so i just wanted peoples opinions on something.

My general rule of thumb when domestic canvassing is to never undercut another windy or even try and take another windys work at all! i normally tell the custy to give there window cleaner a chance before firing them, then if they dont get any joy, sack them and give me a ring! that way no one can ever blame me of poaching work! i know im all heart  ;D

So i was just wondering how i can translate this canvassing policy over when phoning and sending letter to potential commersial custy's? or is it impossible?  ???

How is this even gonna work? They ask you for a price for example, and they give you the job. Then a windy comes and says i was getting x for this ? What you and your rule of thumb gonna do now?
Or you get someone tells you they pay their windy £300 for this job that takes 3 hours and decide £200 will do you, what is the rule of thumb now? I don't see how commercial is any different to residential in this respect either. I always give a price, my rule of thumb for other windies is to tell em to mind their own business !!!
I genuinley can't see how you are gonna get started if you are going to take into account what others are doing.

I would only ask them if they have a budget that they work to, most companies do, i then see how my price fits into their budget, if it fits then i get the work if it doesnt then i walk away or see if i can make them adjust it a bit, either way id never ask, before a qoute, what any other cleaners charge

i always give a price and then see what they say,
if you get a no or a ill get in touch with you,
i then ask what is the price you have in mind and see how far you are away if too far see if they will go higher,
if nowhere near i say sorry but i can't work with them prices!
Never ask what they are currently paying,if they are willing to tell you prices be carefull as they are most probably trying to get it cheap!
