Because of all the snow and xmas etc my van tax reminder never got to me till 23 rd December. Anyway I always do it online and theres never usually a problem. Well I paid the £200 last Wednesday but because of the new year holidays etc I still haven't recieved disc.
I was hoping to start back to work tomorrow but if disc doesn't arrive will I still be liable if I drive although I've already paid the fee?
-
I definately would - as long as I could prove that I applied and paid on line.
I did the same thing on the 23rd and mine came between X - Mas and New Year ;D

the police dont fine you for it, they just report it to DVLA, the wheel clamplers have a computer in there van that tells them if a car is untaxed when it drives past, as long as dvla says its tax thats all that matters to them
-
yes i would but would take print out you get when buying online,
-
If you have bought the tax it will show up on the police database as such.
-
I think you will find that the offence is actually "failure to display", so technically taxed or not, you are commiting the offence.
saying that, I would carry on regardless, no Magistrate is going to do you for it.

Hi
They now allow you 5 days from the end of the month to receive and display you tax disc if you have ordered it online from the DVLA. If you haven't taxed your van on the 1st of the month then you are breaking the law by driving it on a roadway.

"I have not received the tax disc. Can I use the vehicle without the tax disc displayed?
When you apply for a tax disc online or by using our phone service you are able to legally continue to drive your vehicle for up to 5 days after the tax disc has expired while you wait for the new tax disc to arrive. This will only apply when you have applied for a new tax disc before the current one expires. You should continue to display the expired disc on your vehicle, until the new one arrives."

I would drive it if I had applied for it and hope I could blagg my way out of trouble if I got caught but technically you can get fined for not displaying one,

Jesus, the authorities do have some common sense!!
I didn't know that was now the case.

Sorted, thanks for contributions.
-
yes i would as all above :D
-
I've been in a similar situation before.
I don't know if it would be accepted but I just print out the email from DVLA, laminate it, and stick it on the screen next to the expired disc. I've never had a problem with this but that might be because no-one who mattered noticed it.

Each force is different
Merseyside police if they find you with no tax they just report you to the dvla. If you have already ordered tax your ok if you havent ordered it you get the fine.
Every force is differnet so phone yours up and check

Absolutly right - dont worry about it you are covered.
-
put a note in your window -tax in the post - ;)
;D Used to do things like that in the 70's. I knew one bloke who put a Guiness label in his car window while he was saving the money up for his disc. ;D
-
my last job was with dvla giving authorization for clampers to clamp and tow away.
if it was taxed they couldnt touch it, even tho it wasnt displayed.
no one cars these days if its not displayed.

i lost my tax disc and forgot to order a new one four months down the line i was still driving rnd with no tax!!!! i had changed address and forgotten to change details of the vehicle too!!

I rang the dvla & they have made it ok to drive with the old 1 till the 11th jan to give
time for them to arrive.
I ordered mine on the 17th dec & it turned up on new years eve.
