Title: upvc restoration - bitumen stains
Post by: [GQC] Tim on January 01, 2011, 04:22:41 pm: Customer had all her soffit beams (don't know what they are called) replaced, and had them painted by what I think is bitumen, it sure smells like it.

Unfortunately there are many specks, and small blobs of it on the window sill. I've tried Thompsons upvc restorer, but only gets rid of the surface stuff, but it's severely ingrained in the upvc.

I've told customer I would look into it, and how to proceed.

Any tips? Thanks.

Failing that,use a very very fine sanding block designed for getting out light scratches,then buff up with cream cleaner.

WD40 ey? Wouldn't that stain the upvc?

whatever you decide, and if it works will take you several hours so make sure you price accordingly.

personally i would not do this type of job as the risk and failure for it to come up like new is far greater than it being successful

but if you do go ahead - let us know how it went
