I just wondered as 1 man business myself, as a frame of reference, what other window cleaners earn per week?
These weather conditions aside!
-
i`d imagine your earning the right amount from what big steve(rcs) tells me.
Your on 4k a week arnt you lol
steve
-
you should not talk about things like this on here, gives people ideas
-
About 200 days per year work and in-between 100 - 300 a day turnover.
Then look at expenses, sickness, broken equipment, holidays, tax, ni, insurances, etc, etc...
Hope this helps a little.
People get jittery on here when money is mentioned...but suffice to say that if you plan your working year at about 200 days of actual work then you could be doing very well if you price well.
Cheers
Dave.

Ay up Steve! You joke! Just about to have m ::)y Posiedon fitted so no money earnt today :) Just interested in what others do to see if i'm barking up the right tree...

its about the money side of things for window cleaners
nothing much about equipment or cleaning other than a short list at the back

That's the post closest to the mark so far. Not talking about money on here is like going to a brothel and talking about love.

Well I fall into those figures but there is a lot of leeway ;D
I make that a turnover of anything between £20k and £60k.

how long is a peice of string? we all earn different amount dependant on many factors just find out for yourself!!
it isn't a bed of roses and licence to print money as some believe

You're a one man business..... you earn what you want to earn and don't worry about others.
If you only want to earn £50 after all expenses a day then go for it, if you want to earn £200 a day after all expenses then go for it :)
-
300 per day? :o :o :o :o
-
Some on here earn 500 a day.

Some on here earn 500 a day hour.

i get mixed up with different user names.Do you use the quad?
How did the snow plough clearing supermarket car parks idea go? i saw on the news tesco had their own, did they nick the idea after you approached them?
They'd nicked enough of my ideas.

Slumpy - please don't encourage him !
between 20 & 60k hmmm... ok i'm in the ball park then (just)
there are many factors controlling your income, if your happy with what your making
then what more could you ask for !
Don't worry about what others earn/say they earn - if your not making a living or happy with
your lot at the end of the day - work harder or put your prices up

Ive always worked on the theory of "earn as much as i can", has always worked for me.

I do em for £2.50 mate ;)

You should plan for your turnover to be at least double the average industrial wage in your area,.... because after tax, equipment & running expenses you're only left with half! So if you can't meet that target you'd be better off in a "real job".
As mentioned previously, there is a lot of down time in this industry, due to weather, equipment & vehicle problems, sickness, and simply the time it takes to run a business like invoicing, paperwork, meeting the accountant & running to the bank etc etc,.. it all takes away from time spent on the glass. Plan to work 5 days a week but plan to earn enough to survive in just 4,..

some good food for thought guys. thanks....

i would say that if you have pretty avarage work you should be on about 150-200 quid a day. so around 700-800 quid a week resonable. ignore all those that gloat about earning 1000 a day although it is possible if you have well paying contracts.
-
i aim for 300 to 400 per day usually 300 but i know a windy who does central london up to 500 to 600 per day
-
some going if you can do 300 x 5 every week. Alone i try aim at 200. With help on downstairs 300 to 350 ... But i have days that are much more some that are less. But generally i hit my figure. But the previous post about 700to 800 for average and upto and just over a 1k i think is reasonably possible for a one man wfp putting in the hours. But im sure some are doing much more and others will be Happy doing much less. Same with all trades.
-
my prices must be way out...100 a day would be good f me :)
-

Bet you pay a lot of tax!!!! Anything over £37,000 a year is 40%. Same as Rooney and co!!!!!

Is that before or after prostitutes?

well i think they try claim it as a business expense but not sure if the taxman allows it

I believe that the £37k is in addition to your basic allowance though so a profit of around £43k before your percentage goes up to 40%. So a single WFP operator would probably need a turnover of at least 48k and in all probability, quite a bit more. Not that I'm anywhere near that myself.
-
One of the great things about WC is that you can earn what you want {within reason}. If you want to earn £60 a day, that's fine, if you want to earn £400 a day, that's fine too. Horses for courses as they say.
I have a simple plan, year 1 £25k, year 2 £45k year 3 onwards £60k. If I don't get to the £60k figure I might give myself a written warning :) That is the best thing about being a WC, your the boss and your business can be whatever you want.
-
Tom, I like your thinking.
I really want a 3 yr plan as well - I don't want to be in the same position in year 2 as year 3.
-
Would the figures quoted be realistic for a domestic WFP operator.
As I have been cleaning domestic for about 6 years with WFP and would never be able to achieve these figures.
Andy.
-
Hi Andy, I would say they are achievable but to do it you would have to work hard and get your system "optimised for speed". I am just getting my head around what is needed. Originally, I did not want to work Saturdays, but after the poo weather we have had it has made me rethink. I have also turned work down because the customers requested Saturdays due to security issues etc. So now my idea is to work every other Saturday even if I have had a good full week in nice weather. Get the van system working for me properly, because one of our challenges is physically tiring. My right elbow is killing me for example just now. I am going to get lighter poles and an electric hose reel set up like Lee's and Slumps. This will allow me to do more jobs in the same amount of time. Very importantly you have to value your work. This means pricing it right. I have a minimum charge for a three bed semi and never go below it. Plus I target larger houses and am doing driveways as well now. there are lot's of WC's earning much more than £60k by the way, they are just more business minded in their approach.
-
You know I think a lot of window cleaners should go on a basic business course - even a part time one! It would be so beneficial.
Tom, how long have you been going for? I really admire your aspirations.
-
Hi Tom - just wondered what your min price is for a 3bed semi - mine is £10 but i often feel pressured to go below that.
-
Been going just over a year, so still lot's to learn. My min price is a little more than yours David, but not by much. {don't want to be too specific on here but am happy to chat if you want}
-
the main thing to me is i enjoy what i do, also allows me quality family time and the wage ain't bad.
-
exactly S.W.C. theres no right or wrong income level, it's a lifestyle thing.

You sound like your head is screwed on tom, good luck getting your round set up im sure you will achieve 60 k if you want too, it s do able. Im trying to get to similar level but will have a bit of help to make it easier, although its possible like you say its a slog!!
-
My min price for a 3 bed semi is 15,.. the vast majority are 18 or 20 though.

Most of mine are 6 or 8 weekly though & only 1 in each area. If i could do a few without moving the van they'd get a discount.
The cost of living in ireland is nuts too,... so prices have to be high.

Same here Nat, but soldiers are from all over the UK. Now and again you hear a sharp intake of breath when you quote, but either they take it or leave it. Some will, some wont..................
15 is about 12.50 quid at the moment I think.
