Title: Beware the surprise of hard floor cleaning
Post by: rich hand on December 22, 2010, 09:25:10 pm
Twice this year I have turning up at a property to find another carpet cleaner there. The first was actually from performing a quote for a tiled floor and I met Clinton Neylan already set up and cleaning the carpets. No problem there, existing customer job, nice guy, spoke for a while.

Just this week I was rinsing a limestone foor and I heard a shout from the front door, "what's this machine doing here?". Another carpet cleaner had turned up. He came in and set up his little toy HWE and also managed to miss the edges. Shame, since I would have charged the same and included them.
It wasn't like the customer didn't know about my carpet cleaning service either.

It's funny since my main business is actually carpet cleaning. Has this happened to anyone else?

I'd be concerned that someone would NOT be aware of the carpet cleaning side of your business when hiring you to clean hard floors unless, of course the other c/c were the customers' regular c/c's

I once got a job where I was asked to clean a suite, the customer had the carpets cleaned by another company and was happy with their service but I was asked to clean the suite as I was recommended for suite cleaning the carpet cleaner had done their carpets for years, strange world.

Shaun

PS Richard where did you train for hard floor cleaning?

I did a job spring time where I was asked to quote by the lady of the house - it was eot but big cottage and I was busy so quoted domestic rather than eot rates (if you see what I mean plus there was furniture) - then when I rang on follow up and spoke to him (bloke of house) he said quote fine do it PM later that week - I had to rejig that day and rang to ask to do it am - spoke to him again and met him at now empty house - great setup drive close to road outside tap next to van - straight in - bishbashbosh - he paid at end and remarked Oh thats more than I was expecting - I said no exactly what I quoted - he siad sum 100 less than my price but was happy with job and paid without a fuss - as I was leaving it dawned on me for first time they had got their wires crossed and thought I was cheap monkey - no doubt someone was fuming by end of the day at client not turning up to let him in ringing and finding it already done and paid for - its happened to me once years ago - c'est las vegas rodders, what comes around etc...

You're not wrong it's strange because I've had exactly the same thing happen to me.
What it boiled down to was that the other carpet cleaner only did carpets, even though it was a doddle of a job.
