Hi,
I've installed an immersion element in my 650lt tank and have run it a few times to heat the water and prevent it freezing, i have now found that the lid area on the tank is becoming a little distorted and the lid doesn't sit correctly.
Has anyone else found this ? if so have you found a cure.
Any help would be much appreciated

try heating with the lid off, as this might be the prob

Blue Monkey,
Thats what i do,
but it has still distorted, i was thinking maybe cutting a piece of 4" downpipe to length and try to wedge that under the area of the tank that seems to have dipped by about half an inch.
I just know that the next time i go out with a full tank i'm going to have a wet van floor ???

try turning your immersion down, as the heat is getting to it, other than that try not filling it up as much,

were have you fitted immersion , not through the lid i hope

No its not through the lid, its about 5" from the bottom of the tank, although i have only half filled the tank so that i don't have to heat a full tank of water.
This is only because i haven't worked this week due to the weather and i just want the warm tank to keep the van system from freezing up.
The area around where the lid screws on appears to have dropped by about half an inch, so now the lid won't seat properly.

its got to the the heat/steam of the water melting the plastic
try sticking tin foil inside around the area that is melting to help it

IBC's are of thinner construction to that of 'wyvale' tanks so may be more effected by warm liquid.
did you use a short element or long, the longer ones may disperse the heat better than a shorter version

not sure on that one , sounds like its in the right place though the immersion that is ., ???

Is your lid vented to let the expanding air out?
-
Probably distorted as you have only half of the structure heated up,try filling to the top and heating it all and it may re-align

Hi Chaps,
it is the 'wyvale' type tank and i am using a long 27" element. I'm going to try to push it back up into shape with a piece of 4" down pipe wedged inside the tank, i'll let you all know how i get on.
Thanks for all the replies though.
