I'm on my third pole now...they really are the dogs...
I Have to disagree with the above post. I have tried many 18' poles, Extenders, Brodex,X-tel, and others. Its a pole I use every day for up to 8 hrs.. Now no 18' pole as ever lasted me longer then 1 year untill now.
I have had my 18'slx for 15 months and its still going strong.Fantastic.
Its the best pole by a country mile that I have ever had.
Now the only tip I could give to improve the poles operating life and to transform its in use from a good pole to a superb pole is after the protective coating on the pole is wearing off. Now every week put ceramic oil on the pole sections. This keeps your pole looking like new as the oil impregnates the pole with a black look. The ceamic oil bonds to the pole so will last most of the week. You will have very little carbon dust and most importantly the pole will be a joy to use as it just glides up and down in use. If you use it without the oil the pole is stiff, gets stuck and you just cant compare how the oil transforms the pole in use.I know gardiners recomend you use a ceramic wax to help lengthen the life span of the pole. It will do this but its not as good as the ceramic oil because with the wax you do not get the glide you get with the ceramic oil.
Dont use wd40 or normal oil as they dont last and the oil sits on the surface of the pole untill its rubbed off with the friction of use. The ceramic oil bonds with the pole and when you wipe it on the pole sections look brand new. Superb stuff.
Enjoy your pole.

How can you possibly disagree that I think they are the dogs?

Hi Neil
How do you protect the inside of it. I find the sand from block paved drives gets in and wears it. I tey to wipe the pole hose after each job, but on wet days it seems that I can not keep them clean

im gonna get a 25ft SLX next year.never had one yet!i do have the 22ft slx and its my everyday pole for regular domestic window cleaning.
i open all sections by a foot or so and stick the hose down the base to flush out the grit once a week and every few weeks spray a little wd40 on the sections and wipe down with kitchen roll.keeps the sections nice and smooth.wiping down the hose is also done everyday.
dave i think neil thought you were saying the slx was s**t!instead of the dogs b******s!!(excellent!!) ;D ;D ;D

I think he meant that you were on your third pole, implying they don`t last.
Which it doesn`t really mean.

I am a perfectionist.
If a pole is crap I would say so. I was not initially impressed with the 18'slx.In fact it was sent back twice within the first month.
The pole only became superb to use when my protective coating wore off and I started useing the ceamic oil.
Your post tells me,You dont like it and at a guess you dont clean it or treat it to get the best out of it.
In use it earns me more money then any other pole I have had. that statment is made because I can work 9 hrs solid and faster with this pole and still be fresh at the end of the day.No other poles I have had as done the same. The pole is stiff so I only need to put light pressure on the pole which you feel on the brush head. I can extend and collapse the pole faster then any other pole, its effortless.I have been to w/cleaning shows and demos and NO 18' pole on the market can hold a candle to it in my opinion.
Their are many w/cleaners but how many are really good?
If you were to use my 18' slx for half a day I wonder what you would post?
Regards Neil.

ive had my 18ft slx for nearly 18 months now, and is still going strong, allthough its getting a bit worn out now.
so i was wondering where you get the ceramic oil from, any links please ??
-
I shortend my pole hose to the shortest length I could get away with. It still extends its max distance.but in use it makes it easier to use. When doing an upstairs window the pole hose does not touch the ground.
When doing downstairs if I see any grit or sand I just move my hand up the length of the pole which loops my hose and this keeps it off the ground. This only works with my 18'pole.If your pole is longer you have to repeat the process.
This is why I love the 18'pole. You can have the hose off the ground in the blink of an eye. I have a 35'slx and I hate it because of the length of the pole hose. Its to long for private houses.

I've had mine for 4 months now and well pleased. Its so light too. I was using it last week and it froze up so had to change to my Brodex alloy. The difference in weight was amazing. The Brodex was way too heavy after using slx.

Heres a link where I buy my ceramic oil. Its the only place you can buy this from as its patented.
http://www.ribblecycles.co.uk/sp/road-track-bike/Lubricants-Oils-Degreasers-Finish-Line-Ceramic-Wet-Lubricant/FINILUBE370
Buy the 4oz bottle. That lasts about 9 months applying it once a week, depending how often you use your pole.
Ribble also sell Cramic wax but Its not as good as you dont get the pole sections glideing the same as you do with the oil.

You will find the oil helps prevent your pole sections from freezing up.The water will end up as droplets on the pole sections. If these droplets freeze when its really cold I find the ice droplets are knocked off as I close the sections due to the narrow tolerance of the clamps.
Hope that helps. I have to go. 10.30am start.Still -4 here but just warm enough. 5 hours work ahead. waaayheeee.
