the subject of hot water has been covered a lot on these threads these are my my conclusions over last couple of weeks of use
1 once you have hot water there are a couple of issues, if using 8mm hose over a long distance the water is very cold at brush head but by using 6mm hose water is still quite warm
2 if pulling hose a long distance and it is on cold floor even hot water in hose does freeze the solution i have found to this is to have the water still flowing out of hose while pulling to position.
3 we have found if pole is dis connected then the nozzles on brush freeze very quickly and often need hot water pouring on them to unblock, we use 2mm brass nozzles and was thinking of trying 3mm ones or may be plastic ones to see if this solves the problem. Has anyone any feed back on this
4 we have worked down to minus seven if there is heating in house we have found using hot water that these windows do very rarely freeze however sill and frames do, on windows without internal heating they have froze almost immediately some have dried ok when defrosted others have been a bit spotty to be truthfull
5 start of cold spell we sorted work where their where no paths etc so water fell on garden areas etc so as not to cause slip hazzard we hoped to go back to other areas later in day when temps rose, unfortunately many days temoperature didnt rise above freezing so started tu use grit, we found this worked best if grit was put down before work started otherwise the water had already frozen if the grit was applied after.
6 we have found gritting only to benefit in temps down to about minus 3 after this the water still freezes and so is pointless ,if temps fall this low then we are not doing these areas.
finally7 as already mentioned in other threads grit is very dirty and some customers may not like it.
Last night whilst watching the news they where using de icing fluid to defrost plains has anyone used this on paths i have googled some called killlfrost and it sounds quite good it is not dirty like grit and melts ice instantly it can be sprayed on and at minus 5 a 20ltr tub covers 400 metres and costs £22 has anyone tried this and is it cost effective.
if anyone else can add to the above suggestions with their own findings and solutions i would be very gratefull.

i could of worked getting hot water to the pole isnt the problem but it is minus 6 and was colder earlier, as stated i personally dont think grit is sufficient in these temps but that is just my opinion and dont want this thread ending up as another argument.

Am not sure but I heard somewhere it only lasts a couple of hours then freezes again were as grit works for ages

on killfrost website it states the ice melt is long lasting i am going to ring and find out

Let us no I no the stuff they use on the planes last 2 hours then they have Do it again, but £22 for 400 meters might b worth a go if it lasts longer

i have spoke to them they say if it has to dissolve a lot of snow then it becomes diluted and doesnt last as long but if sprayed direct onto the floor surface without having to dissolve snow then it forms a barrier and like grit is very long lasting, i am going to order some and give it a try i will post on here what i think and its cost effectiveness. SODS LAW when it arrives weather will warm up and no cold spelltill next year ;D

Trevor, well done for being guinea pig for killfrost, the only thing i can think of is if on custies shoes, would it stain those biege carpets :-\
