I've got some folks dead keen for a clean in and out today. They can't see a problem with the weather. Has or is anyone going out, anywhere?

Went out at 5.20 am picked my son up
and found I had a puncture could not get the spare wheel down called AA
7.45 they arrived changed the tyre nackered need a new one.
We had sorted some inside work out in Windsor
which takes about 1 and a 1/4 hours to get to from home
early morning so took the day off.
Oh and it was -9 in N London at 6.0 am ???

Narking though isn't it. Sat here twiddling my thumbs, kids driving me up the bloody wall. -6 here, Northants.

I agree not woth chancing it Christmas dinner in hospital not high on my list of things to do. If i go out later will only do bottoms of houses

if its up to -5 you ll probably get away with trad with screenwash in ya bucket but any lower and itll freeze on the glass and be a waste of time!
you could try scrimming like we did in the olden days but with the low sun you might leave a few smears if the windows are very dirty and itll take you ages!!! ;D ;D ;D ;D
im going to have a coffee then try and clean a few of my own windows with screenwash and see if i can manage it without it freezing up instantly.
then ill work 12-3pm with extension pole on a few domestic accounts if i can.

Minus 8 here, so going to work tomorrow as it should be only minus 6. Roads are really bad here. No panic, we have work booked for carpet cleaning, but Jan could be interesting.

I'm in Basildon Essex. Was -10 over night went out at 9 with warm water still -9 and the water froze on the windows. Tried a bit of trad and that froze instantly. Looking at the forecast for my way tomorrow it's much better so I'll just give it a go then. Still -7 as I type.

I've been debating whether to go out or not; I reckon I could work trad with screen wash; I've a day of bungalows I could do.
But it looks a little bit chilly out there, and it's nice and warm in here. :-[

You know what, it just isn't appropriate with the weather being like this. I have all the kit (hot, no ladders required, salt) but there are far more important things in life than struggling round on ground covered with compacted snow trying make out that you're making the best fist of a bad job.
You boys in Wales, haven't you noticed it's snowing there at the moment?
I'll keep an open mind and see what tomorrow brings.

Yeh, but only a sprinkling here in SE Wales. It'll be worse in deeper darker Yakky Da country, because it always is.

Ive got a few rounds to clean this week so ill be out hopefully tomorrow.
If the water freezes i will be using screenwash and if the ice is too slippy i will be cleaning the bottoms only with the tips to suppliment my earnings. The most important thing is safety so i wont be taking any unecessary risk.
Im quite lucky this year because i have all but 1 bill to pay and some savings to get me through until january so im in a very good position financially opposed to last year. I will do all my collecting and see my customers before christmas no matter what the weather.

Wonder how many on here took the advice in the summer to put away a few pounds ;)
I put away £40 a week and now have nearly £1000 to fall back on if needed.

No snow here near prestatyn, but there is where I need to be working in Llandudno.
Still _5. Trolleys, ice, and hills make working unthinkable.
The tax man will be crying when he gets my next year returns.

Simon...got stuck up your way this weekend.....two hours from the five bells roundabout to the canvey roundabout...absolute nightmare....then another 7.5 hours to get back to clacton.... :'(
There were over 30 cars involved in various accidents on that stretch of road Saturday, good to hear you wasn't one of them.

Simon, i was working in Basildon this morning, my van stated -11 degrees ( look at photo ), done 1 pub then left Basidon it was then saying -8.5 degrees

Around 0 degrees this morning here. Actually feels quite warm! Had a light snow shower too. Worked since 7 on a commercial. A few high windows, so cleared the areas around the windows and salted before using a ladder. Worked a treat. Off to do a couple of bungalows and see if a few houses just want accessible windows done, then I will call it a day.

Totally agree, main roads are fine, just plod a long, no rush.

No not been out in 3 weeks now...wont risk it, as your first fall could be your last!!
been round all my Customers, with a flier stating, WILL return to work when its safe to walk on the paths..
All Customers are really understanding!! ;D

took 2 hours to do a 25 minute journey, big accident blocked the dual carrigeway. got there hose froze up
finally got it clear and water froze on all the glass.

Squeaky is quite right - I've just been away for a weekend in a converted barn north of Rhayader and at 10 am my car thermom. said minus 9 and my mates said minus 10. We had over a foot of snow between Abergavenny and the Elan valley and up on the mountains and in the valley where we walked (and slid) it was two feet deep in places.
Going on Friday we nearly didn't get through with an icy hill near Builth Wells stranding a few motorists who didn't build up enough speed and coming back today we thought all was OK but as we approached Abergavenny from the north west the temperature rose to a balmy minus 3 and the heavens opened and it was only just passable and down to one lane on the A465/A40/A449 and getting deeper by early afternoon.
A bit better near Newport but the new Severn Bridge was down to 30 mph and even sunny Bristol (which is of course protected by the river ;) sorry couldn't resist!) had the worst I've seen this winter.
Ah well back to work tomoz! Its a mild minus 3 here at the mo!

I had a good day today, did about £££ between 11 and 3 with a couple of dog walks on the beach in between jobs.
I got several nice tips as well as the best ever window cleaning tip.
Still no snow and not freezing.
That sounds like a good trip Mr G. I wouldn't fancy driving up through there in all this dodgy weather about.

Just been to buy a new RO system - an expense I could do without. The ice has destroyed mine - exploded it all over the stables. Never had this problem before. I'm not going to fit the new one 'til it warms up, and if it gets this cold in future I'll unscrew it and take it indoors. I have a stock of water (there's 28 x 25 litre pots thawing out in my hallway) just in case I can work before Xmas. Fat chance?

Not been out to work today, too much snow and ice about to make it viable. At least it gave me the time to sort out my van's heater, so I can now drive without scraping the windscreen as I go along!

This has thrown a spanner into my works because after a couple of false starts i was hoping to employ, but i have only worked a handfull of days in december, and didn't work at all last january.Okay for me maybe, but not the best way to hang onto staff.

Been out all day think it got to -5 for ten minutes then back down. Rubbed all day. Earnt more today than i normally do with mop and blade, no cills to wipe

Only missed two days so far. Have only seen one other intrepid window cleaner out lately. Mind you living in Cornwall does its benefits. Nissan Vannettes do spin on ice quite nicely so i havent been risk free even here. Quite good fun!
