Title: Post your temperatures!
Post by: Steven Shoreditch on December 16, 2010, 08:38:40 pm
Why not?

We're 0.5 at the moment.  Why not, if you have the data, post your temps for the evening and on into the morning?

The continent does get much harsher weather than we in the uk give credit for.  We moan a lot here, but it's small beer compared to some places.

-3.5 here and falling, no doubt about it.  I've got everything going in the van and shed to protect stuff.  Can't say we haven't had the warnings.

I know all about that. :(

Me and my daughter had tickets for the Snowdome at Tamworth yesterday, and had to give up and turn around before the M42. Everything came to a halt in the blizzard, and the a-roads were near impossible.

One disappointed little girl, and 4 stressful hours to get home.

Yeah we both were. Been for the last 5 years. Never guessed when I booked it that we'd have snow like this before christmas. :-\
Have to see if there's any chance of a part or full refund. I'm sure we weren't the only ones. Midlands was no-go in the afternoon.
What with the tickets and fuel and food it was still an £80 day out for nothing. Gutted. :'(

I don't mean to sound like I'm having a go Daz, but you are actually off your trolley if you're considering going out and expecting it to be a success. Of course you might think it's a challenge and you won't be beaten by adverse weather conditions. However you might just not think as well I guess.

It's possible to drive at 120 down the motorway, just because it can be done doesn't ran it should be done, is safe to do or is even remotely sensible to do.

Its madness to go out working in this weather.

I cannot believe people go out when we are being told to stay home and safe. What about if your van breaks down or you slide into a ditch or worse.

Surely we earn enough money in the summer to help with winter?

As for using a pole on upstairs window ??? Will take much much longer with very poor results. Even when we trad downstairs windows, there are sometimes marks or lines left which get redone. Using a scrim or micro cloth will leave smears.

Remember guys.....the perfect clean is the clean where you finish using only a blade without the need to wipe the edge of the glass....again something you cant do with a pole.

I don't mean to sound like I'm having a go Daz, but you are actually off your trolley if you're considering going out and expecting it to be a success. Of course you might think it's a challenge and you won't be beaten by adverse weather conditions. However you might just not think as well I guess.

no offence taken matt!i did 3 afternoons in freezing temperatures(3 hours a day)the other week and made £200.not a great deal but it moved me on to my next work which i was able to wfp as the temp rose a few days later.

i will be "off my trolley"as ill be leaving it at home and just going out with a 25L BARREL of warm water(for bucket)screenwash/squeegee off and my extension pole with vice versa.

im off to try and do my own windows.if they freeze up with screenwash i will write the day off and try tommorrow.

the forecast is more of the same all week and more snow on thurs/friday meaning if i do write the week off ill be having at least 3 weeks off due to xmas and my new york trip with more bad weather forecast in january!!

what do you suggest?have a month off and spend all my emergency funds up? ;D ;D ;D ;D

ill do my damnest to not dip into it too much!! ;) ;D ;D

Daz

Which screenwash do you use? How much do you put in your bucket?

Im hoping to get out tomorrow but if the ground is too slippy it will be bottoms only. I just want to clean as many as possible before the snow comes next week and get all my customers up to date

When are you going to new york?

Regards
Danny

Its madness to go out working in this weather.

I cannot believe people go out when we are being told to stay home and safe. What about if your van breaks down or you slide into a ditch or worse.

Surely we earn enough money in the summer to help with winter?

As for using a pole on upstairs window ??? Will take much much longer with very poor results. Even when we trad downstairs windows, there are sometimes marks or lines left which get redone. Using a scrim or micro cloth will leave smears.

Remember guys.....the perfect clean is the clean where you finish using only a blade without the need to wipe the edge of the glass....again something you cant do with a pole.

bob you can clean using a trad pole if you ve had plenty of practice(i have)it doesnt work on all windows(leaded and georgian forget it!)but on most others you can.

its all down to technique and practice.im not going to start explaining it now (again!).but it can be done.

you can avoid most lines down the window and runs from the top no problem.the frames or sills wont get cleaned very well but you can make an adequate clean of the glass.if its just for the odd time during bad weather on 1st floor windows then its worked for me time and time again over the years.

cheers GB i normally try and make the best of any weather conditions in regards to window cleaning but even ill have to admit defeat today!!just tried cleaning one of my own windows with screenwash it froze straight away and i had to get the scraper out to get the icy soap off!! ::) ::)this is on a heated flat window as well.

well i think ill defrost the van and print a debt list out and go collecting later.

regards
