been offered one today on a 01.
i hear the hdi is better than the older ones?
are they nippy?good on mpg?
anyone got one?

If its in good condition at a reasonable price then it will do the job fine. It will carry 650 litres and your equipment with room left over. Payload of 1000 kgs or 1250kg depending on model (engines heavier on 2.5), 7.5 cm of load area is more than enough. Also being a Citroen, dual passenger seat was standard.
It is more heavy on fuel than the 1.9 you were asking about earlier today, but no heavier to run than a 2.5 l turbo diesel Ford Transit of about the same age. Trouble is with turbo diesels is that if you push them they use diesel. But then what's a few pounds extra a week for diesel if the van is spot on? A newer Hdi will cost a couple of grand more, so a couple of quid extra a week on diesel is nothing.
Again, gearbox condition is very important - make sure there is no grating of gears when going up and down the box. A gearbox repair at the main dealer will cost more than the van's worth for a proper job - exchange gearboxes are also never repaired properly.

my mate cleans out of a relay its a couple of years older than that but he loves it cus the payloads high and good on fuel. he borrowed my new trafic and said hed have the relay back as it seemed to have more room and he complained my fuel was pants so id say good choice and yours is prob the newer model which may be better still

they never made a 2.5hdi; either 2.0hdi, 2.2hdi or 2.8hdi. The 2.8hdi was a really heavy engine so that only can out in the 1400 and 1800 models.

Sorry but the description is incorrect.
It was registered 30.3.2001 - the hdi engine wasn't used in Relays at that time yet. The first Hdi was introduced in that shape the following year and the new shape followed very soon after (within the year).
DVLA says its a 2446cc diesel engine, so it will either be a turbo or no turbo 2.5. Pretty sure it will be a non turbo.
The hdi engines were 2.0, 2.2 and 2.8.
Windscreen, expensive, but check the gearbox. Don't part with money until you know what it drives like. It does look a bit bashed about in the back. Presentable - for a builders van.
Personally would hesitate- proceed with caution. £1000 is not the bargain of the century.

Find all citroens, fiats etc of this age are very tired unless 100% maintained, they lack power especially going up inclines with a full tank, I wouldn't waste my money. I'd wait and buy something newer when the funds are available.
