Hi all :)
My leisure battery for my WFP system packed up today its only 6months old!!
I dont fancy paying 50 odd quid for a new one, has any body used a car battery??
my local scrappy sell um for £10 each!!!
-
take it back it should have a guarantee,
i wouldnt buy a old crap car battery from a scrapyard you need it for your business its a false economy,
-
wire your system to run from your cig lighter, this is what i do

How have you done this Blue???
-
yeah most batterys come with a lenghty warrenty
-
i run a cable to pump with pos and neg, u need to buy a new cig addaptor and make it,
-
I run my pump of van battery, but it is a
Deep cycle leisure battery, the combination
Of cold weather and constant stopping
Starting and short journeys are more likely
To kill the battery than the pump is.
I pop mine on charge at weekend just to
Keep it topped up

How do you know its pooped SB, it should be under gaurantee mate.
Make sure you get a firm fixing on the Pos:,Neg terminals, without sounding patronising, charge it overnight if its a leisure battery.
-
iv got a bus battery which i charge every sunday for about 3/4 hours, in this time i deep clean the vans, .....too birds with one stone and all that....and that last for the full week i know it will go for longer as my light dont flash on the pump....brodex machine...but id take it bk and tell them,,, they norm come with 2 or 3 years garantee

Try and get hold of an old fashioned battery and charge it over a long period. The new modern battery chargers get a signal from the battery and thinks it's fully charged when its not.

Actually if its Purefreedoms, they only give 3 months gaurantee.
-
if you dont charge your lesuire battery after every use as recommended when you buy it you will shorten battery life had my last battery over 2yrs
-
what about screwfix there pretty cheap, got one from there for our leccy scooter which ran a 500watt motor for 45 mins flat out. think we paid 25 quid for it

Unless the plates are knackered you might still be able to get it going again.
If its not a maintenance free battery try unscrewing the plugs on the top and checking the electrolyte level of each cell. The electrolyte should be just above the metal plate, if its low top up with pure water.
Screw the plugs back on and put on a slow charge for at least 12 hours (not a trickle charge).
If you do get it working give it a few more regular long slow charges.
I had a battery a couple of months back that was "gassing" and I did the above and got it back to life again and has been fine ever since.

Pro window Leisure batterys are designed to be drained and re charged mate, well mine is anyway.

No they're not mate, you should never drain a leisure battery more than 50% before recharging.
-
:-[ really? I had better start recharging more often, apologies pro window. thanks Dai I had better get the battery manual out :-[

I got my leisure battery from www.tanya.co.uk
I use it 4-5 days a week, 6-7 hours a day and charge it every other day. After nearly 18months it is still going strong ( prob be flat tomorrow morning now I said that). They are expensive, but seem to last.

we use 2 x US Power deep cycle batteries - I think they are 170 Ah - very very expensive but guess what? nearly 5 years old and still good as new.
we have split relays in the vans though - that always helps.
