I try and use as many eco products as possible, but sometimes i have to use non eco products because nothing else will work on natural stone.

I try to use eco stuff as much as possible, but sometimes it doesn't quite cut the mustard.

I've yet to meet a customer who really cares whether I'm using Eco Friendly chemicals or not!!!

Like a few have said, I use them most of the time, but sometimes something a lot stronger is required...

col
the reason you and i don't get asked is cos we don't emphasize eco so the eco customer would never use us. theres loads of eco custies out there i'm sure, but i don't market to them, and don't want too. i'd rather talk to my custies about the cost of maccies than the blandness of muesli ;D

Same as Colin in regards to Ive never yet been asked what I intend using to clean their carpets.

Ive tried a few Eco friendly products but have now stopped using them as I cant get good results on really dirty carpets.

I generally have the same experience. Most customers don't seem to give a monkeys whether the chems are eco friendly as long as their carpets are clean!

Not that I have any customers at the moment! ;D

I agree.

I've been let down by the eco products loads of times and have had to break out the Prochem.

It's actually cost me quite a lot of time on a few jobs.

My general opinion of the eco stuff is that it's great on a relatively clean carpet, but often fails spectacularly on anything really dirty.

Didn't think you could read Clinton? How did you go at Mr.Matthews?

I use both eco and non eco, 2 thing I would like to know is

1.How eco are they? 99%?100?50%?
2.How un eco are conventional solutions?

One thing that is told to us about Eco friendly products are that they are rinse free, can't think of one that has to be rinsed out?

He does when he's in Sheffield but he now lives in Manchester area, actually he usually asks me to recommend him someone for various services last time got him a carpet fitter for his house here.

If he's have asked me for a cleaner in his area I could have recommended him a good one and not the 'tosh' that he ended up with ;D

Hello everyone!
As far as i think Eco friendly methods are more suitable definitely but unfortunately contemporary way of life exposes us on a daily basis to toxic materials because tetra chloroethylene (known as perc) is the most usually used substance for rug cleaning but in spite of the fact it is labeled as a hazardous air pollutant by the United States Environmental Security Society so  i would say it depends upon your priorities.

Most clients of mine dont specify  an eco freindly chemical they trust me to use the appropriate solution but if i used eco as my usp above anything else i would
come in to contact with lots of people who found me because being eco is important to them. A smaller net with possibly bigger fish, well richer ones any way.

I consider myself very eco and yet I use powerburst.

Why, its simple, I clean carpets to to very high standard so making
sure that the customer buys far fewer new carpets.....how eco is that ?

Whilst I am not any kind of eco warrior. Thought i could use as a USP. Plus if you can get the same results as non eco, Why not?
I do think at times we should all look at the harmful chems CCs use, Even if just for there own health, Think there is a recent thread on here about a member being poorly due to fumes etc.

Hi Guys

When I was a chemist we used to use trichloroethylene in liberal quantities to dissolve many things, they used to slosh it around the factory in 200 l drums!!

I believe in using the most eco friendly way to achieve very clean carpets, so sometimes I use high pH, Ultrapac, Powerburst but if relatively clean Pureclean or Formula 90.

Cheers

Doug

Paul

most cleaners think they can say they clean with eco methods and people will come. well its not like that.

As with all marketing you have to drill down into the type of people that use these types of services. plus birds of a feather flock together. where do these people go, what do they read, many of this type that really care about these issue will not use main stream media, for example they would use web sites that relate to these issues. just like we do here. have a look at my site below for some ideas. BTW adwords is a great way to get your advert onto these type of sites with adwords placement adverts.

http://safe-carpet-cleaning-for-babies.co.uk/

I would NOT go the 100% eco way just offer the service along side your normal ones.

when doing your quotes you can always recommend these service with the reason why you think they should use them, this way you position yourself as an expert and also the customer will then tell her friends why you recommended it and will be thankful your looking out for her. by asking a full range of questions when quoting you can turn each quote into a unique to that person and not be just another price. its like tagging a label onto your quote it gives them something to remember you by when choosing.

Respect

Jim
I can't wait. The following brought a smile to my face but might just start to provoke you....

There have been various threads on the forum about using "eco" or "green" as a USP to promote ourselves when often the "normal" chemicals are then used. And then of course how "green" are our vehicles. Well.....

There is a Driving School near me called "Drive Eco". Their justification for using the "eco" USP? You learn to drive in a car with low CO2 emmissions! Amazing :o

Ian is right if you want eco business you have to understand them (although they fall into distinct sub groups)

Over protective parents

Fear anything Types

Open toed sandals/tie dye & cheesecloth

I read something in the Guardian this morning

I'm considerably more ECO than Yow

JV with companies that also deal with these identified groups
