Title: A new way of attracting customers & keeping them!
Post by: Dave Regent on December 12, 2010, 03:45:37 pm
Hi all,

I used to price up jobs and quite often wouldn't get the job, normally losing our to a competitor. But now I've completely changed my ways.

I advertise and let the customer tell me what they are prepared to pay to have the job done and I can say I rarely lose work and I'm kept reasonably busy.

I don't let customers take the p%ss though. If they say I'll give you £15 to clean my lounge I'd say, get away,  I'll do it for £30 while I'm here though!

Customers are more happy when they set the price!

Try it, give it ago, believe me you convert nearly every job that calls you.

And some of the jobs I wouldn't charge as much as they want to pay anyhow!!!

£30 for a lounge? I don't go under £50.
Re custies giving the price I do the same - I would ask them how much do they think it's gonna cost, then give them competitors price and meet somewhere half way. They are always happy that they can bargain the price  ;D

That ain't no new idea sonny. Been around since I was in dipers!

If you service the well heeled it can work, but if you work the wrong side of the tracks, you will be down on the deal and have to buy four new hubcaps to boot!

And next time they go for the cheapest again- not the kind of customer you want..

There is another guy on this forum who does eactly the same thing (see the 4 bed house for £75 thread).

I don't personally see any problem with that approach. Everyone has different ideas on how to run their business and if they are making a good living from it I don't suppose it matters how you go about things as long as it is honest.

It's certainly a better idea than advertising one price and then shamelessly upselling when you get your foot in the door.

Trade-in or Trade-up advertising has worked well for many years in some industries, most notably for car dealers. This strategy could be adapted easily to window fashions. The amount you allow for a trade-in may be attractive to potential customers while increasing your profitability.

If your there to price up the job, just do a demo and sign the deal there and then, and book it in.

I was once offered Levi 501s as payment!
