Title: Something i posted on another forum
Post by: Paul Evans on December 09, 2010, 10:39:35 am
Hi All
I have noticed a few members feeling quite guilty, if the purchase from another supplier.
I don't know what's gone on over the years between different suppliers
And  don't want too.
But there is one thing I am sure about different products need to be mentioned on this forum from all suppliers (not the suppliers name).

surely that would give  a little knowledge of there competitors
(not saying they needs it). And give forum members a little bit of help choosing products.

I'm a fella who buys what he wants where he wants. I wont slag the supplier off where I didn't buy from, next week I might buy off him

There it is Paul

i think he's saying, mention products but don't mention suppliers, that way we get to know products and suppliers don't get promoted or slagged off.

or he could just be off his t1ts ;D

On a serious note, the supplier down in Cornwall has a small crowd of like minded men who participate in no strings fun together. One man has a euphemism he uses all the time... "Been in the big house again today"

Paul

I assume the forum you mention is owned by a particular supplier and therefore pushes their products.

If you want to know about a product from any supplier post here and I'm sure someone will oblige.

Cheers

For christ's sake can we all stop dancing around the issue please??!!!

Paul is referring to cleantalk, which is sponsored by Solution Cornwall, I think most of us know that.  And the rules on cleantalk are that you can't blatantly promote other suppliers products and equipment.  Obviously if a supplier sponsors a forum they have the right to stop people advertising their competition in their own back yard!

There's nothing wrong with "discussing" other products and machines, even the admins and moderators such as John and me still mention other products etc.  And contrary to popular belief and vicious rumours (mentioning no names, you know who you are ;) ) only a handful of people have ever been banned and that's because they broke rules and didn't seem to want to act any differently.

The sponsors of this forum don't seem all that interested in enforcing such a strict policy, although I have seen advertising attempts removed so the same thing is being done here.  I think the only difference is that the owner of this forum keeps his head down and is nowhere near as publicly available for snipers to take pot shots at him :)

And I don't think Paul was being "slaughtered" over it, just the rules had to be clarified... and more importantly justified and explained!!  You can't argue with the reasons for the rules.

Jim

The reason the mods/owners of this Forum don't enforce a strict policy is that no supplier is paying so it is a level playing field.

It makes no difference to me whether someone perfers Prochem, Chempec, etc as long as they are genuine.

As far as I am aware Cleantalk is the only forum owned by a supplier and as I have said many times they are perfectly entitled to promote their own products.

On here we will discuss any manufacturers products.

Cheers

Doug

So there's no link any more with Mike Boxall and Express Cleaning?

I guess it's because Express are a supplier of most products so recommending Prochem is good for Express's business, Nick sells his own brand and therefore doesn't want it diluting with Prochem etc.

I too saw David's thread, I too feel as though I have sinned as I went somewhere else to get my snow tyres (by f'king late really!!) but the supplier I use hadn't got any so had to go elsewhere, well actually I didn't give a rats it depends on your relationship with your main supplier and if you feel tied to them.

I tried to register with Clean talk but the Moderators won't approve me, Just because I'm paranoid doesn't mean they aren't out to get me

Jim,

In all the years I have moderated on CIU I have never once been asked to promote a particular product and if I was told what to say I would resign immediately.

CIU is independent because it is!

Nobody on cleantalk is told what to do either!

Anyway I think we have done the situation to death in recent times, let's move on.....

I remember a few years back a certain person said they would never use a certain product from a certain supplier because it contained enzymes, then another product that had enzymes in from another supplier came onto the market and the certain person was one of the first to use it and say how good it is.

Things aren't always as black and white as they seem and some people have short memories where as others are like elephants!

What gets me is operators slagging off a supplier that they have never even dealt with, simply going off what others have said, and have obviously been influenced by.
I take as I find, according to my own experience not someone elses. I will try things by suppliers on the recommendation of someone I know, or a product I like the sound of, but I use my own judgment as to what I think about it.
Operators who blindly following one supplier like they are members of their family and criticise all others need to seriously reposition their loyalties.
Suppliers, all of them, are out to make money, out of all of us. If one of us went bust tomorrow, no matter how much we had supported a supplier, they wouldn't shed any tears, they would just get on with their business.
We are only well thought off by suppliers as long as we are doing business with them, end of story.
Dave.

Can't agree with that Dave, Nick went under at Solutions but was John Gotts managed to rekindle the company how many would be able to just move on to another supplier based on the more unique products he sells?

Shaun

It is easy to believe suppliers have 'unique' products.   The name might be 'unique' but with a little bit of research you can always find someone else who produces or can produce , if not the exact alternative, then certainly something that works to the same extent (& sometimes even better)

May be or may be that they market them better but if solutions were to have gone there would have been a big hole in the online community speciality products market to fill.
