Hi Guys
We are thinking of moving to the UK. I reckon I've got 10 years left in these old bones yet and was looking at carpet cleaning as stone installation/restoration is getting to much. But is there much stone work? I could do it if I had to but you guys seem to be mostly carpeted.

If your're good at stone cleaning / restoration / hard surface repairs, matching etc and you have the time (money to live) to build up your business that's the way I would go as it's more specialist therefore better margin / gross profit and you will soon (3 years) build up a customer base who know you "do what it says on the can" and solve problems for them.
Yes you could make more immediate money carpet cleaning but so are lots of other people trying to do that at the moment because of the times we live in.
Why not do both? ..... with the idea one is putting the bacon* (it might be streaky or miss-shapes!) on the table while you plant and grow your seeds for the real, more specialist business.
Best of luck, I'm interested so let me know how you get on.

* For some reason you sound American? If you are married to a Brit ask her about 'cans' and 'bacon' :-)

Great idea good buddy. We may have to do whatever it takes. Liz's folks are in Glocestershire.

Natural stone cleaning & restoration is quite a tough market to get into. It has taken me several years to build up this side of the business. Im a tile fixer so i get alot of jobs through the Tile & Stone retailers i fix for. Good luck and drop me a line if you need anymore info. :)

A company sprung up round here about a year ago and they are now running 3 vans and a big advertising campaign. This is an affluent area and they charge a bloody fortune. £300 for my small kitchen!
