Hi guys, I have wondered in from the window cleaning section ;)
Just wondered if anyone can give me any pointers, i think i will be adding carpet cleaning to my business. I'm getting quite a lot of requests from my commercial customers.
is there a good all round machine that will clean: floor tile carpets, general grade commercial carpet and deeper pile that you may get in homes?
What training would you suggest as well? prochem or something else?
Your advice would be appreciated
Thanks
Steve

Hi Steve,
I added carpets from a well established office cleaning company, you have overcome the main issue of getting customers before you start, you have hundreds if not thousands of potential customers at your finger tips.
I did the prochem course, very good, and have done the NCCA which is also very good. Machine choice is each to their own, I use a twin vac portable and a rotary. Browse this section and you should get some good advice from previous posts.
So invest a few grand in training and equipment and it will give you a very good return with your existing client base.
BTW like your website.
Best of luck,
Paul

Hi Steve,
We have just added carpet cleaning on to our window cleaning round. I'm glad we got a relatively powerful machine (twin motor, 150psi) however im wanting more power already. Whatever machine you chose get the most powerful you can afford. Training is essential, you can get some quite good deals with machines. We got our machine and training from ashbys, however I think I would consider Amtech if we were to set up again.

Thanks guys.
So what would a good all round machine be? i was thinking prochem. something like the Steempro Powerplus with inline heater?
Someone said to me that for cleaning carpet tiles your better to have a machine that scrubs as opposed to suck?
Also i was thinking of the prochem course. So is this recommended?
I also want to look at hard floor cleaning but one step at a time eh? ;)

A Prochem power plus with a sebo duo for agitation, and a numatic low speed rotary for bonnet buffing on carpet tiles and scrubbing hard floors. I've not been on a Prochem course so I cant comment but many say its good.

Just looking at your original post.
Interesting the order that you listed the types of carpet. ie "floor tile carpets, general grade commercial carpet and deeper pile that you may get in homes?"
If that is relating to the quantity of c/cleaning you perceive you will be doing then I would start off going down a rotary machine route.
This can be done fairly cheaply. Good news eh!
Get a 2nd hand 17" rotary, max 220rpm, for about £200
Pads for it are more difficult to pick up 2nd hand so may have to go for new at £18 each (may need a lot - ie 20ish)
Get a very very good upright cleaner - Sebo BS36 or a 2nd hand Kirby (yes I am serious).
An 8 or 10 litre sprayer - stainless steel preferred, last ages, buy cheap-buy twice.
A little spotting machine, may get one on ebay for £150-200. This is to remove spots via water extraction which obviously rotary cannot do.
Bit more stuff maybe and away you go.
For cleaning carpets in homes, defo go down the hot water extraction route, at least twin vac 150psi ish.
but you can make lots of money in commercial sector if you prepared to work "funny" hours - nights, weekends etc.

thanks for the advice. i have a guy coming to show me how to use his machine to get a feel for it

And get as much training as possible.

Adding carpet cleaning seems like a very smart step. With this add on you will be able to keep yourself busy. Good luck.
