Just went out to start up the Landy,
The oil in the gearbox has frozen near solid. I'm guessing the diesel will be the same.
Chuffing Brrrrrrr ! >:(
-
Light a small fire under the landy like they do in Russia ;D

I don't know how you cope up there when it's so cold. -7 here this morning although it's warming up nicely to -5! I keep the van warm with a good heater at night but won't work when it's below -2 because of concerns around safety {wfp = ice making machine}.

It is thawing out down here +2 this morning 8). Trouble is that we are expecting freezing rain sometime today. >:(

I'd love a bit of rain!!
-19 here when the wife left this morning.

Was between -15 to -20 up near you last night Fomb.
It was -12 here last night! 8)

I'm praying for a tropical heat wave.
Don't really hold out too much hope though.

form b it won't be much good to you now but for the future, when in the army we used to drain all the oil out of the landrovers i.e. gearbox, transfer box, engine oil etc before going into cold climates and a different grade oil was put in, stronger mix of anti freeze etc. I have driven landrovers at -30 without any problems with freezing in fact I wish I had one now :'(

What were you in?
I'm guessing REME

wil should have winter diesel on the forecourts by now. The safe thing to do though in temps like this is to keep the fuel tank as full as poss to stop the fuel waxing. That's when the wax seperates from the rest of the fuel. It was a REME bloke who taught me all this. Winter diesel is good to minus 26c.
