I've had similar, though it was something like £300 for a £12 job. She'd given me a cheque she had made out for the plumber.

She phoned me as soon as she did it panicking. She went mental when I told her she would have to wait 3 days till it arrived in my bank.
What, did she expect me to just go round and give her £1100 on her word alone. ::)

got one for £1000.00 on quote alone, didnt get job but paid up, couldve left it a few months as a big company may not have realised, rang them straight away and manager was very impolite, (was going to post it back same day) however due to rudeness on phone we said it had been banked and when cleared we would send one back, ;D
