Could have asked him how much he'd charge to fit an L5? ;D
-
my nan paid out 80 quid for a service last week and he replaced some little rubber washer thing aswell. she thought it was cheap, i almost passed out he was only there 25 mins max :o
-
i wouldent get out a bed for that lol ;D
-
Ok i reakon he was here no longer than 15 mins, £15 for part and £90 labour :o
mlscontractcleaner we can earn some good money, but you ever done £90 in 15 mins lol
-
I had a plumber "mate" come and fix my boiler, it stopped working 20 mins after he left. he said it was obviosly not the part he replaced at fault so he would have to try something else, cheeky sod still charged me £20 for the part and £50 labour for a part it did not need.
I am now with british gas. pay monthly, full annual service unlimited call out.
-
He said he was flat out. Imagine if it only took him that long on all of them, say he had at least 5 in a day, you can guarantee £90 per house before even starting!
£450 "possibly" a few minutes work in each house...and the rest!
-
thats why plumber/heaters earn 100k a year,
-
The temperature controller in the hall was playing up and the man who had been doing our heating had retired to france so we ended up calling up someone local from the yellow pages.
First he would have to identify which controller it was so he said he would pop round on his way home. About 5 o'clock doorbell rings, he walks in looks at the controller and says "Oh yeah its the Honeywell"
and walks out again.
After the new one had been fitted we found he had charged us £70 callout for that visit.
-
I mean fair does like, wow good money, but does it really need to be that much

I never get that either. They tell you what is the cause, bill you for it, expect payment and then when theyre proved wrong there's no refund.
Feckin $h!te
-
i love it when plumbers charge for parts and labour until they find the cause, surely it cant be that hit and miss?
ummm i think i will change the thermostat see if that works, then maybe a pipe, then maybe the boiler. ::)

That is out of order!
I've got two years left on a five-year guarantee on my boiler; we've had problems once and they came out and fixed it no problem; so it's a good guarantee.
But I think I'll do the same as yourself with British Gas (or similar) after it runs out.
-
When I had problems with my phone line they told me that if the fault was not outside the house, I would have to pay £116 per hour labour cost.
-
If you joined British gas service scheme it would of cost you £15 per month, and they turn up within 24 hrs regardless of time of year
