Many a time we take up 'old' carpet from a well to do custys house and we think, with a total, thorough clean & square off the edges, we could easily sell this on - and we do just that!
How about you carpet cleaner's asking your local fitters or small carpet retailers if they are chucking old, but recoverable carpet away could you have a quick look at it first and perhaps you could do the same?
It's cost you nothing, but will make you money 100% profit (apart from chems).
All you are doing is cleaning the 'used' carpet and selling it to the customer who then will of course need to get it fitted. But, you have made possibly a new customer by doing so entering them on your data base and reminding them of future cleans etc. Perhaps have a seperate place on your websites for such purposes.
Of course, if you're really busy cleaning carpets you wont need to go down that path, but for those that need extra income it's another thought?

Have you got a web site that offers this service Derek ?

The nearest I come to that is if you are in a flood area and you see a decent knotted rug in a skip. Sometimes you can flood these and are clean as a whistle. Wosrt case is you have a lot of wool for repairs. ;) You strictly should ask otherwise technically it's stealing but they usually ain't in. ;D

A favourite of mine is to get the Ikea wool rugs that are ex display in casualty corner and shift em on.

I went past the bank in pz last week and there was piles of carpet tiles stacked up for the skip a little dirty but in good condition must have been 2 grands worth .
thought about cleaning them up and selling on but it was tipping in down as usual.

Derek, where do the customers that you sell these carpets to come
From?
Do you have to advertise the carpets that are for sale or what?
Thanks.

No offense but sounds like a trampy thing to do... plus a pain in the arse for not a huge gain.

Tony,that’s as maybe,but with some insurance write-offs,
Usually cigarette burns perhaps or smoke affected, there are
Some really nice carpets to be had.
The same thing applies to underlay. One retailer told me once
To help myself to 85 sq.yds of top quality hair felt underlay
That you could`nt tell apart from brand new ! !
