Title: Am I being set up for a scam?
Post by: dai on November 29, 2010, 01:25:20 pm
I had a call on Saturday to my mobile, it was obviously a foreigne gentleman.
ile handset.
I explained to this guy that I was not on contract and a pay as you go customer.
He said that I was still entitled and asked me to confirm my full name and address, post code, and mobile number.
He already had the details, I was just asked to confirm if they were right.
Why ask for a mobile munber he had already called? And why are O2 giving me something for nothing?
I was promised another call within 24 hours from O2, this call never came.
Something not right here, I smell a long tailed rodent.
Has anyone else had one of these calls? Or am I being set up for a possible identity theft, if so who should I contact about my fears?

First of all you should keep the number that called your phone. Then speak to your local trading standards office. Then as an extra precaution get a copy of your credit report £2. To check if everything is in order.

This guy already had my details, he just asked me to confirrn them.
I just checked with O2, they didn't make the call, and this call was from a withheld number so can't check. Should I inform my bank and paypal?

be careful, as some times saying yes on a phone call is accepted as a signature for a new contract

I've had that before with O2. I did the same, contacted O2.

I NEVER confirm any details with these kind of calls.

I think it may be the same girl who contacted me as she said the very same thing. I will ask when she gets here as i have sent her my bank details so she can buy a ticket to come and visit me.
