Save more during the good months in readiness for a crap December / January.
Should have listened to the advice on this forum ;D (only bit I havent really paid attention too :( )
Also wish I had set up my IBC in the garage as soon as I had bought it ... still in garden behind garage as opposed to being in the garage :(
oh and get my van insulated as well ::)
Thinks thats about it for my list of should have dones :)

Have done all of that and more but the thought of being cooped up gets to me..as does the fact that all the money I have saved will have to be spent for things like the mortgage...Ah well off to Thailand for 3,5 weeks over crimbo and New Year...but whats it going to be like when we get back...more of the same?
As it is now I am considering 8 weeks off every winter...
Perhaps it'll be us telling the custy's..."see you in spring"... 8)

I have my tank and RO in the garage and it has all still frozen solid. even though I have raised it off the concrete, insulated the tank and wrapped the RO in old fleece jackets.

Right, listen you lot ;D, I guarantee this winter won`t be as bad as last; for most of us anyway.
Nothing wrong with precautions but it won`t be. And if it is, back Kauto Star on Boxing Day to bring a few bob in. For the uneducated, it`s a horse.
If this winter is worse, you can all take it in turns kicking me in the knackers.
I don`t expect anything in return; I`m just spreading a little goodwill 8).

Hi Ian, Slightly off topic you said that you have bought some work which is what I am thinking of doing, Did you pay much for it & is it a big round? I have been offered about £13 grands worth per annum for £4 grand. Just want to see what your thoughts are on buying work. ???

Hi Terry ... dont like to go into too much financial details on the forum but yup just bought a shed load of customers, a van and a proper 2 man system ... totally wrong time of year which I knew when I was buying it but the oppertunity was way way too good to miss ... helped me jump about 18 months in progress in one go ... dont regret it at all and so far most of the work is as promised (dont like doing houses full of dog crap in gardens) (about half way through so far) the bloke I bought it off dont post on here but been very helpful and totally trustworthy.
If ur in a rush like me then buying work is only way to get ahead fast ... canvassing still the best way but too slow for my needs and plans .... sounds like ur paying about 4 times the monthly income (13000 / 12 = 1083) so thats an ok price in my opinion ..... mine all came to 1 price with van, system work etc but roughly paid about 3 multiples but was a lot of customers however once I bin the ones I dont like or trust or turn out to be slow payers or have have piles of dog poo in the gardens then prob paid more like 3.5 times the income.
its now given me a full round which has a lot of positives apart from the obvious one - income - .... now dont do one offs, dont do customers I dont like and now raised my min price to £12 (unless neighbour is a customer of mine at a lower price) .. now also going to cull all the crap customers in January after me christmas tips... work a lot more compact as work I bought was either in the areas I did already or between the areas I did ... also gave me confidence to quote higher than i used to and last week got 2 new jobs @ £15 / 8weekly and 1 job @ £12 / 4 weekly which are 2 quid more than i used to charge.
Hope my ramblings help ;D

I'm in Thailand at the moment. Been relaxing here for the last 2 1/2 months. Coming back in January to get started in this window cleaning business. Threads like these are really beneficial 8)

It sounds like to good to be true, if I need work I would canvas for work by knocking on doors to either add onto the work I have in the areas. Reduce from having it all over the place. ;D

I would stay close to Beach Rd if I were you and come back in Feb.... ;D ;D

Ive always said that anyone that works outside should take their holidays in the winter months. I've done it a few times. I went to OZ for 6 weeks in 1997 then in 2006 took myself and my son off backpacking around the world for 4 months. Work was still here when I got home in early May.

Was thinking about this yesterday and defo going on holiday next December ... missus wont be happy having no summer holiday but hey thats life ;D

We now take our main holidays in winter(Thailand this year 3,5 weeks) and will take short breaks during the year...my thoughts now are that the working year is mid Feb to Dec 1...anything else is a bonus...this is a long time I know but if I can work in this 'off period' then happy days...so my new view of working in various rain conditions has changed...plan to invest in good quality gortex rain gear...so I don't end up sweating like a sauna.
Cheers
Dave.

What am I going to do differently?
Well I split with my missus at the beginning with no money, just enough to pay some rent and get my car through its MOT. So with this weather I do not have any money and if I cannot pay the rent, what do I do then? So I would make sure that I put money in my bank account and not hers.
(this is not after sympathy by the way)
