No mate, try playing them at their own game. If there are vat registered firms working in your area, make some leaflets up informing customers that they will be paying 20% over the odds come January! ;)

In almost 14 years in this game, I have never knowingly lost work because of new guys starting up. It usually works out that I pick up new work in areas that I cover that are canvassed.

I don,t have any areas, I work in some and anybody is free to canvass away just as I am free to canvass where I want. Thats business

Stu mac , move to plymouth , its great here , they all get mega ratty i love it !
The only thing that annoys me is ive had so many in the areas i work leafleting right in front of my face , a few occasions they have done it while i have been cleaning the house windows in question , now i just laugh and give a bit of banter , along the lines of "save your leaflets mate "
I never lost one yet , dont think i will ,, but as you say its business , if you lose out then either your too much , their too cheap , or dare i say it your crap  ;D

A few months ago, I was working away, when I met a young guy dropping leaflets offering window cleaning. He looked sheepishly at me and said 'Am I treading on your toes?' I told him that he is free to go wherever he likes, and there is enough work to go round, and wished him every success. I even suggested to him that he try knocking at the house directly opposite. They wanted a window cleaner as they had only approached me minutes earlier, but didn't want to pay what I quoted.

Not seen him since, so I wonder how he got on.
