I have a 18ft CLX very good, would buy again, but if I was you I would get some glue in for the clamps.

mines doing my head in!!! glueing clamps every week!!

I have been using "serious glue" £4.99 from B and Q. Easy to use.
First time lasted a day but then I "scratched" the pole up a bit and it lasted about 10 days. Done the same again and now still ok after about another 2 weeks. It is the middle clamp that comes unstuck on mine...
I rang Gardiners and they sent me some 2 part araldite stuff but you need a very small mastic type gun to use it and the instructions are in such small writing I couldn't read them, as I didn't have a magnifying glass.
I am 52.

we shouldnt have to do this at all!! been sent two different sets of glue and they just dont work!!
-
im the same really pee'd off with it shouldnt have to glue any parts ok it lower budget pole but no excuse bad manufacturing

we stand any chance of getting an exchange??? i doubt it! why should i post it back? just for them to use the dsame glue and send it back! whilst im without a pole ...

I have been using fishing poles for the last 2 years or so. Also got a Jeff brimble Pole. But always a niggle somewhere.
Just wanted a change.
Agree about Gardiners though. No excuse for crap glue and it has been going on for months.

So what do you reckon the problem is, bad glue?
-
Jeff's pole is ok. I knew what to expect. It is basically a fishing type pole but without the bother of having to put it together, as it is taped up , u need to see a photo. Once you get used to it, it is really handy and also extremely light. Apparently it is a prototype so not a bad attempt.
I now use a 18ft CLX for normal, before I used a gangster pole (minus the last section for normal houses).
I only use Jeff pole for the slightly longer jobs. Anything big I get out the F16.

iv got jeffs pole too just wanted know wot
u thought ;) ;)

that will teach you tight lot who got the clx - no problems with my SLX- PLENTY OF GLUE :P
-
Hi Gav, I prefer the 18 CLX when the glue holds. But Jeff's pole is a cheap and easy way to go higher. As I have been modular for 2 yrs or so I can add gangster base sections etc to make it higher although it gets too whippy for normal use.
Fishing poles are less whippy and they don't collapse like Jeffs's pole does sometimes. But for intermediate jobs I quite like it I have the hose on the o/s so that I can add sections.
Anything higher I get the F16 out. Just wanted a change from fishing poles. They are brill but I needed a change.

22ft clx excellent pole!had 1 clamp break due to over extending it at an awkward angle a few months ago but no problem with clamps coming unstuck!
ill be trying a 25ft slx the next pole i get just for the rigidity and extra length though.

;D ;D JSM I have a 30ft slx too, no problems either but my mate who ordered his a month later has had several different clamps come unglued. Im ordering the 22ft clx to replace a 2 yr old xtel which has still got quite a bit of life in it surprisingly. for a shorter every day pole im not sure the higher price tag of the slx is justified. ;)
-
Daz why dont you try a 30 or 35ft slx it hardly seems worth spending all that money for 3ft? Dan :)

I occasionally get spinning clamps on my SLX - just reglue. If it happens when you are working just put a bit of gaffer tape round until you get home.
-
just had a phone call from Gardiner since my last post..my clx is getting sent out today ;D
-
Well it arrived about half hour ago, the first thing I did was check the clamps ;D all seems fine. well impressed with the rigidness considering its not carbon fibre, looking forward to using it,,,lets hope its some time soon! ;)

if the glue does go - you will notice before hand little bits of dry glue coming from one of the clamps.
mine was fine for a month then the glue problems started
-
Thanks wc i will keep an eye open ;)

dont overtighten the clamps ! being made of plastic the barrel nut will get stripped of its thread. Gardiners did send me out spares free of charge on request when this happened but its still an inconvenience when it happens.
As for the glue, same issues here too, my tool kit always has some araldite in it now and gaffa tape when the inevitable happens ::)
-
SPE I was cheeky and asked them to send some spares when I ordered as I bought a slx a few months back too. they sent me 3 spares ;D
-
The clamps should be set to just nip up. When set correctly, they should open & close easily. ;)

The only glue you will ever need for your clamps is this stuff, see below;
Gorilla Glue absolutely superb put it on for around 24 hours to let it dry.
Can't go wrong.
regards.

I've got an 18' and have no problems at all. Never had a problem with any Gardiner's Products ever.
epoxy glue fill fix anything if needed. Sets so hard you can sand it to a finish!!
